(Oxford, ME) – OPSCentral.net, an internet simulation racing league is set to begin their first points racing season on November 5th, 2006 at their home track, Oxford Plains Speedway. Twenty-four of North Americas best online short track drivers will take green for 150 laps at the home of the TD Banknorth 250 (the richest one day short track race in the northeast), gunning for the first points paying win in OPSCentral.net history?

Not sure what we’re talking about? OPSCentral.net runs on a simulation called NASCAR Racing 2005 Season. Based off NASCAR Racing 2003 Season, NR2005 is a free sim that get drivers and fans as close as they can to “smellin’ the smoke and jammin’ the gears” like their counterparts of NASCAR do. Some of NASCAR’s top drivers like Dale Earnhardt Jr., Denny Hamlin, Martin Truex Jr., Brad Keselowski and Cale Gale use simulations to help them at the real track on a weekly basis.

Drivers in OPScentral.net range in age, and most are from, or have ties to Oxford Plains Speedway or the Northeastern racing scene (PASS, ACT, TVMRS). Drivers from as far south as the Carolinas and as far north as Nova Scotia, Canada have expressed interest in the first season of OPSCentral.net, which is set to bring some great off-season racing to any racing enthusiast.

Currently, OPSCentral.net runs their Late Model series on Sunday nights at 8PM EST, with practice opening up shortly after 3PM on that day. Practice days are also held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning at 7:30PM EST, with a 20 lap feature to follow the hour practice. OPSCentral.net also plans to run Riverside Speedway (Groveton, NH), Thunder Road (Barre, VT) and Bristol Motor Speedway (Bristol, TN) in the month of November.

How do you get involved? Go over to OPSCentral.net and sign up for the points season. You can also get your free copy of NR2005 while your there, along with Teamspeak. Teamspeak is the official voice communications network of OPSCentral.net. Race and Teamspeak Servers are provided by Redline-Servers.com: The Gamers Choice. Questions can be directed to JimmyV at jimvad@adelphia.net or Tim Terry at tnt2018@hotmail.com.

(Oxford, ME) - Driving a replica Mike Rowe Chevrolet, the "king" of Oxford Plains Speedway, Joe Doiron (Berwick, ME) drove into OPSCentral.net's Victory Lane on Sunday as the inaugural points paying victor in the OPSCentral.net Sunday Late Model Series. But, it wasn't made easy as Adam Ricci (Westbrook, ME) had an outside line on Doiron's #20 Rte. 202 Trailer Sales Chevrolet, as the two battled for the last twenty laps.

John Turnure (New Jersey) had held the point for a race high 120 laps, before being involved in a self spin in turn two on lap 129. Turnure had taken the lead on lap 7, and held it for all but one of the next 120 circuits around the 3/8 mile oval. On lap 128, three cars (Turnure, Doiron and Ricci) had been under a blanket for the lead, when Rich Hall (Maine) and Stephen Potter (Moncton, New Brunswick) got together in turn four, which brought out no caution. When the leaders came up on the spinning cars, Turnure's #88 Dodge hopped the curb on the front straightaway, upsetting his car which led to him grazing the curb again in turn two, spinning the CPR Racing Products machine. No caution had been called for the 88, and Turnure could never rebound from his spin, which left him in fifth position and twelfth on the racetrack on an impending restart with less than 10 laps to go.

On the last restart, Doiron held off Ricci until lap 144, where Ricci's Thomas Superwheel Pontiac Grand Prix made an outside move on Doiron, but didn't have the momentum to get past the yellow #20 to take the win. Dan Collins (Statesville, North Carolina) was involved in a wreck on the final straightaway of the race, and slid across the line in third. Turnure finished fourth with Jimmy Vadeboncoeur (Maine) rounding out the lead lap cars.

Heat racing set the field for the evening's racing. Troy Slowik (Wells, Maine) and Don Austin (Kipling, North Carolina) won those 13 lap affairs.

Following the points tally for the night, Doiron hold a slim one point advantage over Ricci. Collins sits two markers out of second with Turnure fourth, by one point. Austin and Vadeboncoeur sit tied for fifth in points, twenty points behind Turnure.

Racing resumes this Sunday as the drivers roll into the tight Riverside Speedway in Groveton, NH.
