Hey Jammers,
So does anyone know "What Was Found" in Micheal Waltrip's Fuel that he Claims He Knew Nothing About and whom ever Fesses up to putting it in will be FIRED. Lets see what you all think was in it.

Domino's Pizza oil? Teriyaki sauce? LOL!!! Maybe Kentucky moonshine!
We will likely never get the REAL story. Nascar will say, "In violation of rule 12, sub part 7a, paragraph II, the team was found to be using an illegal substance not consistant with approved fuels....."
So maybe the fuel actually contained the same thing as Nascar's announcement....think about it.

they packed the air cleaner/intake manifold with sterno gel ?

they packed the air cleaner/intake manifold with sterno gel ? Bingo! But I heard just the manifold.

and that's what "discolored" the intake, as Mikey put it. "Some oil inside the manifold"..."we don't know where it is coming from"

Fellas,
I can tell you this much, i wasn't sterno in the Air Filter because its like all other series they give you your NASCAR Apprroved Air Filter. It was an Un Approved Fuel Additive, that they won't say just it was un approved. they found it in the fuel lines and cell. so i was dumped in. Sterno would only raise the flash point of the fuel this additive raised the Octane level to way beyond the 116 they run legally.
Think about it some and it will come to you.

This is just a guess and I am probably way off, but I know methane/methanol whatever you want to call it has a very high octane level (I think around 120) and I thought it burns redish, but I am not sure...but this is going way back to chemistry class my junior year of highschool which was about 7 years ago.
I believe in France they use this methanol in block form for some of their engines...but to my knowledge they were still working out some kinks with it because it only proved to work well with short distance travel. Hence why I think I am way off, but that is my best guess.

Joey C. That doesn't explain what the oily substance was that was inside the intake manifold. Are you saying that the fuel additive that was in the cell left behind an oily residue in the manifold?

I'm not sure I understand this. To raise the octane, you can add a number of things. (benzine, tolulene, acetone) All that does is increase the fuels ability to resist preingnition. Which in reallity is all the octane number is a gauge to. To make horsepower you would want either an oxygen bearing fuel or a more volatile fuel. The only oxygen bearing additive I'm familiar with is propylene oxide which is a liquid. It evaporates mad fast. But it doen't leave any residue. I've heard the rumors of all sorts of rediculous things being in the cars intake and quite honestly, none of them have that "magic horsepower" that was suposedly being sought. Now if they had found a nitrous oxide setup hidden somewheres, well thats a whole 'nother story. I honestly think that NA$CAR just whipped up this whole thing to get their poor performing new marketing partner some headlines. Sad, but desperate times require desperate measures. JMO as always.

Nitro-methane added to fuel will increase horsepower. I don't know how but it does. maybe somewhere along the lines of a stronger charge. sterno packed in an intake manifold or air filter will make more horsepower as well but obviously only until the sterno is burnt off. short term hp gain would be good for qualifying

Nitro is the other oxygen bearing fuel. You gotta run like 80% with a normally aspirated combination to get the power you are looking for. It also requires a very different ignition curve. (I helped out on a AA/FC for a few years) Still doesn't explain the oily residue though. I'm sure the real story will remain untold simply because it is easier to police that way.
