I just received word from W.J. that his dad passed away this morning at 7:15 after what I believe was a long illness, on the West Coast. Of course, the thoughts of Lori & I are with him at this time.

His laptop is with him, and though he has been checking in from time to time, Walter is scheduled to be back on March 21st.

My family and I thank you all for your expressions of condolence at this time. We will move on with good memories of a man who lived a very full 93 years, and who is now at peace and no longer suffering. He was a good father, a proud WWII vet, and he set many good examples that we all try to follow and will continue to do so. In my opinion, there is no better way to honor someone than that.

Once again, my thanks to you all, and I look forward as always to seeing everyone this racing season.

Walt,

What can I say? You know how I feel about you. 93 years is a good run. I'm sure he is at peace. May God welcome him into His gates with outstretched arms. I'm hoping that you are comforted in knowing that he is in a better place.

I look forward to seeing you as well opening day!

Once again, I want to thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers, but I want to add a little true humor here, as I know my Dad would have liked that.

7 years ago at the wake for his 3rd wife (they all predeceased him), a gentleman who was a neighbor remarked to my Dad that he shouldn't be too sad, as soon enough he would be reunited with his wife.

My Dad's reply? "Which one???"

That's the way he was, accepting of his circumstances and loving to lighten up any situation. We who remain also accept what is, and we know that his 93 years were full ones, not always happy each day of the year, but good for the most part, which is all we can really ask for, other than kind people, like all of you who've posted here, to be around us. I thank you all for that, both for these public messages and the ones I received privately.
