RACE OF CHAMPIONS "BRAWL AT WALL" SET FOR SATURDAY, JUNE 23RD

WALL TWP., N.J. -- Wall Township Speedway has something this week for old time Modified fans and new fans alike. If anyone remembers the All Star Racing League, the early Turkey Derbies, or Garden State Classic's, they will remember it was a battle of local drivers VS. outside invaders. The Race Of Champions Modified Pavement Series will help rekindle those memories this Saturday, June 23rd, when they invade Wall to compete against several local NJ modified drivers on Scott Motor Coach Night.

Reigning Wall NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Modified track champion John Blewett III and brother Jimmy "Showtime" Blewett, both of Howell, are to field ROC-spec cars for the event this Saturday starting at 6:30 p.m.

While the Wall Whelen All-American Series and ROC Modifieds appear similar, John Blewett III said that the detail changes make a difference between the classes. "The RoC cars use a four barrel carburetor to our two barrels," said Blewett. "They also use 15-inch tires to our 10-inch tires. The changes give the ROC cars 120 more hp."

Third-generation driver Michael Bohn, of Freehold, had his ROC No. 54 on WTS's midway display Saturday night. Bohn, like Blewett, makes only partial appearances on the RoC tour. "I've run the ROC car when they come here and a few times at Mountain Speedway (in St. Johns, Pa.)," said Bohn.

The 2007 ROC series has scheduled 15 races among seven Northeastern tracks. Race winners and top five points earners get automatic entries to the 57th Race of Champions 200 Sept. 22nd at Oswego (N.Y.) Speedway.

The Blewett brothers, Bohn, Tommy Farrell, Steve Whitt, Steven Reed and other WTS drivers are to defend home track honors against ROC Modified Pavement Series regulars Pete Brittain, Earl Paules, John Marcovic and Eric Beers.

Brittain, of Oakhurst, NJ won the Richie Evans Memorial 100 at Oswego May 26. The self-proclaimed "Jersey Outlaw" won 16 Whelen All-American Series features and the 1990 Wall track championship before going on to compete with the ROC series. Beers, of Easthampton, Pa., won the June 9th round at Lehighton, Pa.'s Valley Speedway. Paules, of Kunkletown, Pa., is the reigning ROC champ although he did not enter May 26th's event.

Results of Sunday's round at Perry, N.Y.'s Wyoming Conty Int'l. Speedway had Rusty Smith as the most recent ROC Series winner. The June 2nd round at Chemung (N.Y.) Speedrome was postponed by rain.

Former and current WTS stars Frankie Schneider, Jim Delaney, Tony Siscone, John Blewett III, Tony Hirschman, and Lenny Boyd have won the ROC 200. The late Richie Evans and former NASCAR Nextel Cup driver Jimmy Spencer have also won Wall modified mains on their way to ROC 200 glory.

Wall's RMP Modified Affordable Division, INEX Legends Cars, Value Towing Factory Stock and Street Stock divisions are to support the ROC card.

The Whelen All-American Series Modifieds, who are to reappear for the Larsen Brothers Memorial 75-Lap Race Saturday, June 30, and Sportsman, are taking the night off on June 23rd.

Wall Township Speedway hosts the NASCAR Whelen All American Series every Saturday Night from April to October. Gates open at 4PM, with qualifying starting at 6:30 PM.
