This Saturday the DeLange Racing Young Guns head to Chemung Speedrome in the Southern Tier of New York. Bobby Holmes of Lockport returns to action after a three week layoff and will be joined by Erick Rudolph of Ransomville as the DeLange Modifieds will be competing in a 75-lap Race of Champions Modified Tour Central Region race. This event was rained out after qualifying on June 2 and the lineup is already set. Holmes will start the race from the outside pole in the #22 Original Pizza Logs Modified and Rudolph will line up sixth on the starting grid in the #45 Original Pizza Logs Modified. Rudolph will be doing double duty at Chemung, racing the #12 Original Pizza Logs/PrimeTyme Motorsports/Brigham Concrete SST Sportsman in a 75-lap SST Modified feature.

Last weekend Rudolph carried the banner for DeLange Racing as Holmes continued his recuperation from a concussion suffered at Oswego Speedway on July 21. On Friday night the talented teenager made his first-ever Modified start at Spencer Speedway in Williamson , New York , driving the #45 Original Pizza Logs machine in a 100-lap feature event. Using the experience he had gained in three previous races at the Spencer half-mile oval in the SST Sportsman, Rudolph drove the Modified to a solid fourth place finish.

“We were expecting a caution a little earlier than it came,” explained Rudolph. “That was our hope, anyway. I think we were faster when the tires had a few more laps on them. They seemed to come to us. We didn’t get the yellows that we needed. We made the wrong call when we pitted. I thought the car needed to be tighter and we actually needed to go the other way. We ended up too tight. But a top-four finish is nothing to be ashamed of.”

On Saturday night the action moved west to Lancaster Raceway Park . The highlight of the night’s program was the Tommy Druar/Tony Jankowiak Memorial Mr. Modified 50. Rudolph drove #45 Original Pizza Logs Modified to a respectable sixth place finish against a stellar field of racers in this prestigious event. In the night’s 20-lap SST Sportsman feature, Rudolph was battling for the lead in the #12 Original Pizza Logs/PrimeTyme Motorsports/Brigham Concrete machine with Kirk Rutherford when he was eliminated from competition after a trip into the backstretch wall just past the midpoint of the race. He was credited with an 11th place finish.

Upcoming events for the DeLange Modifieds include a return to Spencer Speedway on August 17, Lancaster Raceway Park on August 25, and a 125-lap Race of Champions Modified Tour North Region event on September 1 at Oswego Speedway.
