The Indian is on the other side, and what the heck is with the buildings next to the stands?

It's true. When the Indian was first obtained from Danbury Fair Raceway, he used to guard the men's room/ladies room area, but now guards the driveway area, LOL! The 'buildings' are actually false fronts built and used for the Suffolk County fair.

So the county fair was at the racetrack?

A couple of times, but it wasn't too successful, and was discontinued.

IF my memory serves me correct, the County Fair is how the Cromarty's got into the racing business. They used to Promote the SC Fair, which for a while was held at Islip Speedway. And it was pretty successful at Islip. They used to have a different division race each night during the fair. When Islip closed and they moved it to Riverhead, it wasn't quite as successful.

The Cromarty's have always been promotors of some kind. I think they even ran the Commack Arena at one time.

And yes, they did the Suffolk County Fair at several locations for many years, including at Islip Speedway.

Lies, lies, and damnable lies.... that is the ole Saloon that had been located next to the track for years... It was the site of many after race parties and shoot outs... Lorne Greene himself killed a man with his bare hands in that saloon...

For a couple years we ran the figure8's on wednesday night at Islip during the fair. Also, I had never heard of them running the Commack Arena, but they did have the Copaigue roll-n-ice. The building became a Ford dealership, across from the old Copaigue drive-in on Sunrise.

Yes, that would have to be Ed Kennedy in the O. Flew in from Texas each weekend to race. Had to have been a Tour Show.
