Joe,
I am flattered by your offer, but I will respectfully decline.
Mountain Speedway already has an Enduro series...The ABC auto parts and car crushing "Mountain Madness Enduro Series".
Our sixth and final event of the season will see the finest Enduro drivers on the East Coast, many of which have already signed up, to compete for the $1500 top prize. Enduro racers from tracks all over the North East are already in preparation for the "Halloween Screamer", twin 150 lap events for both the 4 Cylinders, and the 6/8 Cylinders.
Along with the guaranteed $1500 to the winners, comes the prestige and more importantly...the bragging rights of being...the best of the best.
The Halloween theme will only add to the festive atmosphere, to make for a great day, and to create an annual fall classic event that folks will talk about for years to come.
And for all those Enduro drivers...from various clubs, tracks, organizations, and series...when you are at Mountain Speedway, you are part of the...MOUNTAIN MADNESS family.
So to all the newbies...WELCOME!

Wow Mike, it sounds like you guys really have a show put together....

I like the layout, 4 and 6/8's, the purse, the $100 registration...where did you ever come up with the ideas? :-B

I tell you, the guy who must have originally put all this together...wow, he must be quite a guy!

Keep up the good work, Petey!:applause: :applause:

Even from my hotel room in NC, I can tell where this thread is going, and it's not pretty. Can we can the rivalry and just all enjoy the fact that enduro racing has grown to the point where there are many venues for enduro lovers to race and watch?
No matter what the format or who came up with it, this is just a good thing for enduro racers and if you've got an opinion, fine, but that opinion should also reflect a gladness that this segment of auto racing has become what it is through the efforts of many people.;)

But what about that fine print???
That is $1500 guaranteed if you get 50 car or more, correct.
What is the car total right now???
I do feel the car count will hit the 50 only because the other tracks, except for NEETS, enduro races are over. Riverhead and Big Diamond will be done for the series by this time. Hopefully NEETS's car count will again rise to the 70, 80, and 90 plus car count that are the norm. And Joe, I'm surprised it is a 150 lap race, not a 131 lap race. And then change the name to the Frankenduro!!! Or maybe 200 laps and call it the Mutha's. But wait, is there not already a series that has this???

Everybody welcome?? Mike when we were there last you talked to Robin about our cars with both side bars and he explained how they were put on and wouldn"t be able to come off without taking the body off. I believe you told him I know your cars" no problem". Rules came out (NO passenger side bars).I tried working with other series about rules so drivers could go back and forth between series. I tried to change and fought for some changes and we explained that to you at the time. You seemed receptive.
Now in tech. My son drove one of our cars and was dq'd for springs that we offered to take out of the car and were told no you are just dq'd. That is after over half hour looking at the car. The motor compartment, RF, LF and RR suspension all looked at, but not the LR where the spindle was broken by contact from the techs son (We came to find out). WE MADE A VOW NEVER TO COME BACK AND HAVEN'T.

We watched you drive a 200SX and do really well. Robin gutted one and did really well. It comes down to driver, that you know as well as the rest of us, it doesn't have to be worked on, just ability, luck and be there at the end.

EVERYBODY WELCOME?? I DON'T THINK SO.

intense1
09-04-2007, 02:04 PM
Hi Elaine,
A DQ does not, by any means...mean that you are NOT welcome. We have made some adjustments to the rules, over the course of the season, as tech has felt they were needed...and will continue to do so. I think the concept of Enduro racing was to "gut" a car, and "go" have some fun. But, many cars began to show up with more and more bracing, reinforcement, and suspension modifications. We already have a Saturday nite division (4 Cylinder Thrillers) for these type of cars.
From what I see, Enduro racing is changing a little. The day of the $50 clunker is gone, as scrap prices have increased. Racers that find a "good" car, do what they can to outfit it for survival. Our seasonal sponsor was purchasing 3 to 4 wrecked cars from racers at the first couple shows. Now, he is lucky to get 1. Another thing that many racers seem to NOT realize is the fact that we run in true Enduro fashion, by leaving the dead cars on the track. I mention it at every drivers meeting and still I get drivers who stall on the track, and try to push their cars to safety. Speaking of safety, that is always a #1 concern. Unfortunately, the added expense of safety items, roll cages, etc....will affect car counts.
As for entry fees, the cost of operating any speedway for a specific event is NOT cheap. I don't need to tell you that, as you and Robin are very aware of it, I am sure. And there is no guarantee that you will even make the green flag. Being able to go the distance comes from preparation, and that only comes from experience.
One question, why a passenger side rub rail???...I don't think it's necessary for true enduro racing. It prevents tires from being cut down...which is a part of the game. (Drivers side=safety...I understand that)
The "tech man" you are referring to, is no longer an official (partly for this reason).
And, I do remember a post by you, after the Frostbite enduro, about how you checked the springs when you got home and one of them WAS a little different.
I always enjoyed seeing (and racing) with Robin, Shawn, and your whole group. I hope you change your mind about coming up and visiting Mountain Speedway, for one of our fall events.
And, you or anyone else, can always contact me in the speedway office, with any questions or concerns. (570)384-3215.

In An Enduro, I Would Say Cut Down Tires Always Have Been Part Of The Game. Usually, Half The Cars Go Out Because Of Flats. At Least That Is How It Used To Be. Car Counts Have Gotten So Low, That Sometimes It Doesn't Even Feel Like An Enduro(Riverhead).

I would like to reply to the statement about passenger side rub rails. I think it is a matter of driver comfort and safety in their minds. I realise that enduros have changed having run them at Riverhead, so I think rules need to change also. If a pass. rub rail will save tires, so be it, and quite possibly by saving that little bit of money, you might make more money, which is what I see to be what you are worried about as I read thread!!!! Tech also should be fair across the board as well. What's good for one should be good for all! :D
