Just curious, why was the tribute 77 laps? I am glad something was done, just not able to understand 2 additional laps. I could understand if it were 1 additional, as that was John's #.

I believe the reason why it was 2 laps longer was because one was his regular number and the other was his tour number. Correct me if I'm wrong, but i think thats what Mark said at the driver's meeting.

His current tour # was 66, but he did run the Curt Chase #77 for a few seasons, maybe that was it. Just nice to see them do something in his honor.

I believe they ran 1 extra lap for #66 and 1 extra lap for #76. This is what has confused some. Would have been more understandable to add 1 lap and made it 76 laps for his home team car.

We were told at the drivers meeting that lap #76 was added for his Wall number and lap #77 was added for him running that number on the tour for awhile. Nice tribute by Mountain for JBIII.
