I just received my November issue of Speedway Illustrated. There was a letter which had a most heartfelt tribute to John Blewett III and those who have gone before him. I hope it's okay that I print the paragraph and give credit to the person who wrote it:
"We fortunate few to have ever sat behind the wheel of a race car have done so for the sheer pleasure of it. We are no more "race car drivers" than we are entertainers. To hear the crowd roar, to see the gleam in a child's eye and smiles on the faces of the fans is what drives us all to do what we do.
Sadly, in the act of doing what we love, some of us have answered the call of the Lord. John answered the call on August 16, 2007.
I like to believe that he did not die that day...he just went one lap ahead.
God bless you John, and all who have died doing what we love.
