ok, so I made a rare visit to stafford's website to look at the schedule. Anticlimactic as I pretty much expected with essentially the same schedule as last year. What got me was this though: "35th ANNUAL COORS LIGHT SK MODIFIED® 100" How in the hell do you have a "35th annual" event for the Stupid Krasher division when it hasn't even been in existence for 35 years??? Just another lame attempt to dupe the public into thinking there's more (in this case more history) to the sks than there really is.

I think they may be dating the race back to the 100 lap mod race pre-SK days. I agree though, that the SK Mod race should be referenced as far back as the SK Mods had their extra-distance 100/150 lap race.

This is true, although some races have already been announced like Thunder Road on Memorial Day weekend and the rumored 3 races at Waterford.

The 2008 schedule will be announced on December 1 at their banquet.

No different than saying Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt are 7 time Nextel Cup or soon will be Sprint Cup Champions. The race has been around for 35 years, the name changes. Not saying I agree, but it has always been that way.

It's completely different. They didn't just change the name, they changed the class of cars that runs that event. If they ran the Busch (Nationwide?) cars in the Daytona 500, then it would be the same situation.

Are you saying the cars in next years Daytona 500 will resemble in anyway the cars that Petty and Earnhardt drove? They will be totally different cars, totally, but it will still be the Daytona 500. And Petty and Earnhardt will now be Sprint Cup Champions. (Cup cars = modifieds, COT cars = SKs?)

Good point, Howie. The first Daytona 500 had convertibles racing in it, but I don't remember seeing any in any recent Daytona 500's. Couple that with the 'common template Car of [now] Today', and we are looking at totally different cars.

No, they aren't the same. Nothing is the same as it was 30 years ago. The car Richie Evans won his first title in wasn't anything like the car he won his last title in either, but it was still the same class of car. The Modifieds and the Stupid Krashers are two distinctly different classes.

I really don't want to jump in here, but I kind of wanted to deposit my two cents into this conversation. Although the Tour-type Mods and SKs are two entirely different classes, both had to go through changes to get to this point. It was a progression.

Sure, the SKs are going to run another 100-lapper. '08 will be the 35th time it has happened. I don't really want to have this turn into a war of words, but I get the impression that having the weekly Modifieds run the 100-lapper every year is a tradition. And next year will be another chapter.

I know... It's my opinion. Take it as you want. Grains of salt are at the door for no charge.

Unless I read it wrong, it looks like the Mods will be at Loudon on Saturdays again this year.. ( On NHIS website)
