Doesn't the point fund money come from the tire money?? And or sponsors?

I brought that up after the banquet when a driver I sponsor was upset over the amount he got. I helped him out, but when you put into a point fund and it doesnt get to where it was supposed to go, you only hurt the guys who make you money. I don't know if they should scrap the point fund and you save more up front than you might get at the end of the season? There is no easy answer.
