Modified 500 Headlines Mahoning Valley Speedway 2008 Schedule

(LEHIGHTON, Pa. 2-24-08) Mahoning Valley Speedway is proud to present the Modified 500 for 2008. Promoters Doug and Gena Hoffman have just put the final touches on this year’s schedule with the highlight being five 100-lap Modified features.

Starting with the Frost Free 100 on Opening Day, April 12 followed then by the Spring Fling 100, May 3, the Firecracker 100 on July 4, Hot Summer Night 100 on August 16 and the Season Finale 100 on September 27.

100-lap Modified features have fast become one of the trademarks of the paved ¼-mile Lehighton oval. Last year alone some of the most intense action took place in the extra distance Modified races as virtually every win came down to the last few laps.

In addition to the Modified 500, the Race of Champions DART Asphalt Tour will return with two 75-lappers, the first on June 7 and the latter on July 26. RoC at Mahoning Valley has always been must see races.

Of course Mahoning Valley Speedway is more than just the Modifieds as the track boasts a great line-up of support classes which include Late Models, Street Stocks, Pro4 Late Models, Factory Stocks and 4-Cylinder Stocks and each of those divisions will have their own special shows this season.

First up will be April 26 with the Pro4 40. This class has for years provided some of the best weekly racing and has also been a springboard for drivers that have gone on to some of the higher echelon levels of the sport. At the same time there is also a solid core of regulars that have remained faithful to the class. The 40-lap feature will be the most every contested by the class.

A very special event that has been inked onto the schedule that being the Don Reichenbach 68 Memorial for the 4-Cylinder Stocks on June 28. The race is in honor of Don Reichenbach who passed away during this past offseason.

Don was familiar figure with the 4-Cylinder class and the race distance is in reflection of his car number. Don was also the father of Modified driver Rick Reichenbach. The track was very happy to be able to put together this race in the memory of such a wonderful individual.

The Factory Stocks take top billing on August 9 when they will contest in a 40-lapper.

What has now become an established event, the 4th Annual C & D Landscaping 100 for Street Stocks will again be held over the Labor Day weekend. This year’s date is August 30. Chip Wanamaker, proprietor of C & D Landscaping in Walnutport, who sponsors a number of teams as well as Victory Lane through his business and has been part of several winning moments as a car owner and driver, remains committed to the Street Stock class at Mahoning Valley and is proud to be to host this always hotly contested event.

The Late Models will be in the spotlight on September 13 as the number two class gears up for a 75-lap main.

Additional attractions for 2008 include the 4c Super Mods, Checkered Flag Fan Club Night on May 17 and a round of appearances by both the National Old Timers Auto Racing Club and the Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club.

There will be three Test & Tune days leading up to the start of the season. Saturday and Sunday, March 29-30 and also Saturday April 5. Practice time runs from noon until 4:00 pm.

All regular season racing takes place every Saturday night starting April 12 and running through September 27. The only exception will be Friday night July 4.
