5/8 mile dirt track, sounds interesting, just might take a run down there sometime this year.

Its a nice big 5/8th mile track. The outlaws avg about 135 mph there last time I saw them at BPort. Good racing. They also have a 1/4 mile dirt track in the infield for the smaller divisions. I think its exit 6 off of I 295 in South Joisey.

I know these items are from Bridgeport N.J. but there was a track in Bridgeport CT, I believe in the 1950's, called Candlelight stadium, later there was a drive in at the same location in a very urban neighborhood and there was a small grandstand still at the site at least until sometime in the early 80's.

It is exit 14 off I-295 in N.J. Used to travel up to the track from Dover when we went for Cup races there. Good racing every time, I highly recommend the trip.

Drive-in movies, another thing gone! Ironic that a drive-in would replace a track. With all the Drive-in mostly gone in the U.S.

Believe it or not, a Long Islander, Roger Bailey won the last race at Candlelite Stadium - a 25-lap Midget race on May 1, 1955. (The Bridgeport Post)

The stadium was actually home to the Bridgeport Bees baseball team. The article mentioned the drive-in theater being ready before July 1st.

The "several hundred" fans that showed up for the race were in the right field bleachers, since part of the stands, including the left-field bleachers, were already demolished.

9 cars started and 6 finished.
