Thanks Rob, I read the enduro thread and they said they were a harder compound and i was hoping that was the wrong information,But from what you say it was.
Good luck this season

Just a thought.. Does a softer compound mean tires wear quicker, thus meaning more tires needed? I also wonder about those teams with lower budgets having to start the season on what they finished it on last year. Are those still allowed?

Good question...

Maybe we'll get an answer.

A harder tire lasts a little longer, the car is a little looser good for low dollar racing, softer tire grips better but wears quicker , hey maybe they will let us soak them to get them softer? lol

Not totally true with a hard tire lasting longer. When a car is loose you will burn up the tire causing a bluish haze to them. This bluish tire will give you less use then that soft tire that is working for ya. It all comes down to doing your homework and spending time with setup to get the most out of the tire of choice. Good luck to all..

$105 + Tax EACH That sounds a little priceeee.........

KickItUp
03-24-2008, 09:51 PM
That is pricey, considering no point fund donations or mounting.. And hopes were up for a better deal, all winter long, promises of a cheaper tire. Why am I not surprised?

RacinRob
03-24-2008, 11:09 PM
if tires were 200 dollars a piece, guess what? There would still be people racing. So lets all stop whining and make the best of what we have left....when I initially heard the news I called my friends and BIT**ED and he shut me right up. Lets not complain about what we DO NOT have control of. If gas goes up 40 cents at the pump tomorrow, are you going to stop buying it? Also you think your seeing complaints now? Wait till we buy a 5 gallon jug of fuel on the first practice day! :disgusted

I vote for Rob for president . 105 really isnt bad for tires, maybe they will let us use our old tires for practice? fuel has got to be near $10.00 a gallon now I would think,

I have been told that you will not have to "cold turkey" drop your old tires on Opening Night. How exactly it is going to be phased out has yet to be completely determined, but we will keep you posted here on the Jam as we find out more details.

does anyone know if they are mounting tires thier ?

Tower Man
03-25-2008, 03:50 PM
Vood you're right, $105 isn't bad. It could be $115 or $150. But keep in perspective, $420 plus per set to win $115 or $40 or $25. Fuel, I figure you're close. Now that purse has not changed in over 10 years. And please, no need for anyone to respond how we don't do this for the money and how we'd race for free in a parking lot.

When the purse was devised there was a $500 claimer rule as well.

Anyway, sticker shock will hit us all once the gates open.

BB tire's last season with all things added up were $107.00

Tower Man
03-26-2008, 08:57 AM
Were there different prices for different people last year? I have my bill in my hand and I paid $447.54 for 4 tires, which averaged $111.89 per tire, with all the fees.

Off topic here, but nice avatar, Voodoo!!! Had to change it, too controversial for 'family' site. Sorry

Mounting tires has been an extra charge.

VooDoo, I believe it was previously mentioned that there would be NO mounting. It's in one of these "tire" threads.

The post above mine is OFF TOPIC and should be contained to PM, not public posting!

any of you guys getting rid of last years tires want to sell them, Can you get the new tires Sat mornig at the track? is there going to be someone at the track mounting tires? or if I bring a tire machine in my trailer and charged to mount them would that fly?

W. J.
03-29-2008, 04:14 PM
or if I bring a tire machine in my trailer and charged to mount them would that fly?I don't really think they would let you do that. You could mount your own, but that would be it.

Old tires for practice only , Thats too bad . I figured I had another 2 seasons left on my new set. lol But really If guys do have good tires they should be able to use them how they see fit, race or practice imo

Matt, the following is taken directly from Riverhead Raceway PR:
In making the announcement Cappiello and Maggio did also state that
anyone who still has Riverhead Raceway approved tires from 2007 will be
given ample time to use those tires this coming season as a cost saving
measure.
So, in my understanding of it, old (2007) tires are not restricted to practice use only.

Full PR will be posted on the front page of Long Island Jam later today.

What is the deal with the right rear tires. Are they looking to go with a softer rr? It would stink to get tires and them change the right rear compound.Has anyone heard anything?

03-31-2008, 09:38 PM
Speaking of rumors... I heard there were no 27.5's. Just 26.5 and 27's. Can anyone clarify or deny this?
Thanks in advance!

26 27 whatever it takes lol

Tracy87BB

Boom-Boom, this is what was included in the PR from Riverhead Raceway:
The Blunderbusts will race a 26.5/7.0-15 790 on the left, while on the right it will be a 27.0/7.0-15 790. As of press time another right rear tire was being looked at and if a change were made that would be announced as soon as possible. For the Blunderbusts left and right side tires must be on the proper side of the car.
It would seem to me that there will be no 27.5, but your best bet would probably be to give TS Haulers a call and confirm it.

Chris, as soon as we hear something definite regarding the right rear tire issue, we will be sure to post it on the Jam.

Another issue to toss around.. Back when I was heavily involved in a BB team (even a charger team), though it wasn't common practice, occasionally we'd get a flat which is much more common to happen these days, but there wasn't a lot of spares to choose from as we rarely had lots of spares due to budget. We have thrown a right on the left and vice versa to finish the race.. Granted, its rare you'd win and be set down for it today with this cannot use the left on the right and so on rule, but what about the low budget teams? What if someone is stuck with a left side flat and only a right side tire in their pit? Not that this will happpen all the time, but if things are now like they were then budgetwise, and I know many teams are worse off in this economy, what will be the penalty if 'caught'?

voodoocadoo
04-01-2008, 04:23 PM
caught? are you inferring that some one might be cheating in this division?

KickItUp
04-01-2008, 06:07 PM
No Voodoo.. Say a team gets a left side flat at some point during the race, they come in, and only have right side spare tires.. They put on that right side tire as a spare and finish the race.. Will the be penalized?

I meant caught as in, that's what they had to use, officials see a right side on a left side, will they be penalized?

W. J.
04-01-2008, 06:09 PM
It's a good question, and I'm sure if brought up at the first practice, Jim and Mike will gladly answer it.

I know most of the time, you CAN run a right side tire on the left side but not vice versa. I dont know about now though. If that helps.

Just ask Late Model driver Kenny Alfano who won a LM feature with "last years" tires. He was DQ'd.

When Riverhead sent out their press release about new tire compounds, there was a mention of the possibility of allowing another tire other than what was disclosed. It was said that you would be informed as soon as possible if there was any change. Just so everyone knows, at this point there will be no change, and tires will be sold as specified in the original PR. You will be running on Hoosier 790's, with 26.5 on the left side and 27.0 on the right. At the present time, these are the only tires that will be available from TS Haulers.

You will still be allowed to run the Hoosier Comanches that you have left over, provided that they were sold at Riverhead Raceway and were legal tires for the division.
