In an effort to provide the most exciting and entertaining racing program possible, the management of Mountain Speedway felt the time has never been better to repair the older sections of the racing surface.
Work has already begun at the speedway, and a very small window of opportunity has become a little smaller, as the weather forecast calls for a mixed bag of precipitation over the next few days, and temperatures remaining near freezing through the weekend.
With help from Franzosa Contracting of Pardeesville, PA., every effort has been made to complete the task in time for the first practice. However, in order to assure the proper curing time for the newly laid asphalt, the right decision is to cancel this weekend’s planned practice session.
The decision to cancel has been made early to accommodate the dozens of race teams from surrounding states who have indicated they will be calling Mountain Speedway their “Home Track” for 2008. Many of these teams travel a great distance to compete at the fastest 1/3 mile asphalt oval in the northeast…soon to be even faster!
Along with the resurfacing of turns three and four, including the apron, is the grading of the front stretch area adjacent to victory lane, and the paving of 10 additional parking spots in the pit area. A go kart track utilizing an inner oval, is also in the works.
We can now look forward, with great anticipation, to the first weekend in April, as practice will take place from 12 NOON-5:30 PM on Saturday, April 5th, and Pole Day to follow on Sunday, April 6th, as timed qualifying will see the top 15 drivers locked in to the feature event, with the remainder of the field to transfer through consolation events on opening day, Sunday, April 13.
