The Garden State Quarter Midget Racing
Club has cancelled its Sunday April 6 program while it
answers some questions about its insurance policy with Wall
Township Speedway's property owners.
The following was posted on www.gsqmrc.homestead.com by 11
p.m. April 1:
'The owners of the big track met with members of our board
and are in the process of responding to questions that have
come up regarding to GSQMRC's insurance coverage. Once these
qusetions have been answered to the statisfaction of the big
track's owners, and our club, racing can resume. Please look
out for further dates on the Web site.'
The GSQMRC had opened with its 17th season with the Fifth
Annual Garden State Classic on 'Little Wall' - a one-20th-mile
paved oval - on the WTS grounds March 29-30. It had scheduled
to resume racing 10 a.m. Sunday and most Sundays through its
season-ending Turkey Derby Nov. 1-2.
Quarter midgets - where drivers five-to-16-years old compete
in specially built traditional open wheeled cars powered by
up to 200 c.c. engines - was to currently be the only racing
on Wall's 48.46 acres this year. WTS's four general partners
decided to keep 'Big Wall' - a 57-year-old banked paved
NASCAR-sanctioned one-third-mile stock and midget car oval
- closed March 15.
The Quarter Midgets of America-sanctioned GSQMRC has been
covered by a separate racing insurance policy. Little Wall
and related infrastructure had been built some 200 feet from
Big Wall and is separated by the latter's pit and paddock lot.
The GSQMRC Hotline is (609) 242-8880.
