Two Big days of racing are set for this coming weekend at Mountain Speedway in St. Johns, PA. Located just minutes from the I-80/I-81 intersection and nearby Hazleton, the lightning fast 1/3 mile oval can definitely be considered the capital of Asphalt Modified racing in the state of Pennsylvania.
Saturday-4/19, will see the Mountain Speedway Sport Modifieds headline the racing card. The budget minded Modified class is a stepping stone to the Tour Type Modifieds that compete weekly at Mountain. However, they are every bit as exciting as the full blown Modifieds. Drivers from all over the northeast will be competing for the $750 top prize, in the 30 lap feature event.
Also on the card will be the Super Stocks (aftermarket bodied street stocks), the PA. Asphalt Legends, and Micro Stocks.
Any teams that will be racing on Sunday (4/20), are also welcome to practice on Saturday. With rain winning out this past weekend, there is no better time to test the new asphalt in turns three and four, before Sunday's big 75 lap Tour Modified event.
Sunday's racing card will be highlighted by race #1 of the Pennsylvania Asphalt Modified Championship Series, for the Tour Type Modifieds. 75 laps will be the distance with $2500 on the line to the winner. A star studded field of top Modified talent from all over the northeast, will charge to the green flag in hopes of capturing the checkered flag, and the points lead. A champion will be crowned at the annual Mountain Speedway awards banquet in November.
A full program of racing will compliment the Modified event, as the Late Models, Street Stocks, Thrillers, and FWD division will also be in competition. That's five feature events of racing and if that isn't enough for you, the Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club will have their collection of yesteryear's racing machines on display, many of which competed at Mountain Speedway when it was previously known as Evergreen.
