The Memorial Day weekend will be celebrated in a special way Friday night May 23, as Lee USA Speedway, Rte 125, Lee, NH, will present carry over features and a special pre-race ceremony in honor of fallen soldiers and those currently serving our country. The DAV, VFW, and American Legion Post of Raymond, NH, will take part in the special program. The festivities are scheduled for 6:30 PM.

In addition all armed forces personnel are welcomed to the NASCAR sanctioned event “free of charge” as guests of the MacDonald family, owners of the 3/8 mile race facility.

Speedway spokesman Bob Watson , a Vietnam War veteran, stated, “We are delighted to invite all veterans and those currently serving our country to our Friday night event. It’s a special weekend and we’d be pleased to have them (veterans) start it off with us at Lee. All our soldiers have to do is present their armed services I.D. at our box office for general admission.”

Last weeks season opener was affected by inclement weather forcing the cancellation of three feature races resulting in track officials placing those postponed events at the top of this weeks race card. Feature races in the Hobby Stocks, Late Models, and Small Block Supermodifieds, will start the program off with race time at 7:15 PM.

Wayne Helliwell Jr, Dracut , MA , will lead the Late Model Sportsman division back to competition Friday night. Driving the Unique Ford sponsored # 27, Helliwell, who will see double duty action in Late Model competition as well, leads an impressive list of entries including Grant Aither, Bobby Melvin, Peter Cook, Jimmy Renfrew, and former champion Boe Green.

Ricky Porter, Epping , NH , is expected to try and repeat his opening night win in Road Runner competition. Veteran racers Lloyd Chapin, Dana Faulkner, and newcomers Timmy Johnson and Steve Nichols are also expected.

Speedway officials have announced the winner of the Road Runner feature race July 18, will receive a guaranteed starting spot for the Four-Cylinder Nationals, Sunday, July 27, at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, Scarborough , ME.
