With the month of May coming to an end, the Johnson Motorsports team is looking forward to kicking off a busy stretch of summer racing, including the upcoming Coors Light SK Modified 100 at Stafford Speedway on June 6th. Over the past two weeks, the Johnson Motorsports team has been busy competing at both Stafford Speedway and the Waterford Speedbowl. Here are the weekly updates:

Friday, May 23, 2008 – Stafford Motor Speedway
Doug Coby #15 Start – 9th Finish – 15th
Zach Sylvester #51 Start – 17th Finish – 23rd
Notes: It was a disappointing night for both Xtra Mart cars. Doug was involved in a lap 2 incident and was forced to pit 6 or 7 times to repair the car. The crew did a great job keeping the #15 on the lead lap, but the car was too bent to be competitive. Zach was involved in a lap 6 incident and had to go behind the pit wall for extensive repairs. He returned to the track 19 laps down. Both teams never quit and got the cars back onto the track to earn valuable points for the night.

Saturday, May 24, 2008 – Waterford Speedbowl
Doug Coby #10 Start – 7th Finish – 10th
Notes: After winning the heat race with a last lap pass of Jay Miller, the #10 was strong again in the feature. Several slower cars held Doug up in both the inside and outside lanes. After a mid-race spin in turn three and a pit stop for a chassis adjustment, the #10 returned to the track and battled for a top ten finish.

Friday, May 30, 2008 – Stafford Motor Speedway
Doug Coby #15 Start – 5th Finish – 17th
Zach Sylvester #51 Start – 10th Finish – 6th
Notes: Zach got the #51 team’s first top ten finish of the season with a solid 6th place effort. He forfeited the 13th position on lap 9 and pitted for an adjustment. From there he was able to avoid several mid-race accidents and moved into the top five before settling for 6th at the end of the race. Doug also pitted for an adjustment on lap 9 and gave up the 7th spot in the process. He was also forced to navigate his way through the mid-race chaos and despite suffering some front end damage, battled into the top three just a few laps later. He rode in the 4th position from lap 23 onward. Having reeled in the three leaders with five to go, he suffered terminal radiator damage when they checked up in front of him on lap 36, ending his night. Both cars were headed for solid finishes and are looking forward to the Coors Light SK Modified 100 this Friday.

Saturday, May 31, 2008 – Waterford Speedbowl
Doug Coby #10 Start – 1st Finish – RAIN (Reschedule TBD)
Notes: Doug won his heat race and was scheduled to start on the pole for the 35-lap feature before a line of wet weather postponed the night’s race to a later date.
