Track officials were able to get all of the qualifying races and the Super Six 15-lap feature in the record books before dangerous lightening and heavy rains forced them to cancel the remainder of the night’s program.

“We decided to clear the grandstands before anyone was injured as we were looking at the radar and the incoming storm,” commented track promoter John White . It was certainly the correct move. Fans filed out of the grandstands and to their cars before the heavy rains hit the speedway.

The make-up schedule for the rain delayed June 13th races is as follows:

--Next Friday, June 20, the Street Stocks will make up their 20-lapper.

--The NASCAR Weekly Modifieds will make up their 35-lapper on July 4, making for double Weekly Modified features that night.

--The NASCAR Tour Type Modifieds will make up their twin 25-lappers on June 27th. Their races will run first on the race card that night. Both 25 lappers offer double track points.

As for the feature that beat the weather, Keith Butler won the 15-lap Super Six feature, his first feature win of the 2008 season. Butler led all 15 circuits in a race that ran green-to-checkers. Butler , who had accumulated four second place finishes to date this season, was forced to pull into the pits at the end of the race as victory lane ceremonies had to be canceled.

Patti Davenport, finished a close second with Joe Bailey taking his best finish of the season, a third.

SPENCER SPATTERS: Kris Hillegeer gave up his regular ride in the Super Sixes for a Tour Modified ride in the number 11, regularly driven by Terry Cheetham…Two first time runners were at the speedway, both prepping for the upcoming Whelen Modified Tour race on Saturday, July 12. Todd Szegedy, driving his Wisk-Snuggle Ford, and who currently sits third overall in the Whelen Modified Tour points, was on hand and won his heat race. Also Jim Storace, from New Hampshire , paced the first heat, taking the win….”Friday the 13th”, for the superstitious, comes only once in 2008 and Friday was it…Heat points seem to make a difference! Phil Alhart Jr. picked up 3 points for his second place finish in the Street Stock heat. This was enough to tie him for the points’ lead in that division with Dan Scott…. As all of the qualifying races had been run and one of the features, rain checks will no longer be any good.

This coming Friday, June 20, will see the return of the “Kid’s Bicycle Races” starting at 7 p.m. Kid’s are encouraged to register for the races by 6:45 p.m. , by the speedway offices. It will be King’s Auto Service and Sales night at the speedway.

On the track will be a regular program of Super Sixes, Street Stocks and NASCAR Weekly Modifieds Race time starts at 7:30 p.m. sharp. The make-up 20-lapper for the Street Stocks will make for double Street Stock features that night.

Spencer Speedway is located just fifteen minutes east of Rochester , NY , along Route 104 in the Town of Williamson . Spencer Speedway is the local “ NASCAR Place to Race” for upstate New York . Points earned each week at Spencer are counted into the national NASCAR Whelen All-American Series championship.
