Burt Myers gained a little more ground on Tim Brown in the points race at Bowman Gray Stadium, taking advantage of some good luck coming his way and some bad luck encountered by Brown.

For the second week in a row, Tim Brown of Cana, Va. randomly drew the first slot in the qualifying time trial order, sending him out as the first car to qualify. Brown felt that going out first to qualify in past events was such a disadvantage that it made it impossible to claim the pole. Again, Brown didn’t perform up to the standards that he had set for himself, qualifying in third.

Instead, the honor would belong to Burt Myers of Walnut Cove, who started on the pole and led every lap to take the checkered in the first race for the Farm Bureau Insurance Modified Series. Brown finished behind him in second.

The “Madhouse Scramble” sent Myers back to 16th for the start of the second race, with Brown starting in 15th. After a colossal pileup that involved nearly every car on the track, Myers was able to slip up to 8th place while Brown’s car was left damaged.

Although his pit crew was able to repair the damage and keep Brown on the lead lap, the pit stop sent Brown to the rear. He ended up finishing 12th – quite an accomplishment considering his involvement in the wreck, but not enough to stay even with Myers on the points.

Tim Brown maintains the points lead, but second place Myers gained another 5 points – narrowing the gap separating them from 32 to 27. Lee Jeffreys of High Point stays in third.

In the Webb Heating & A/C Co. Sportsman Series, Kyle Edwards of King took the checkered on Saturday, moving him to second in the points. Edwards, Kenny Bost of Kernersville, and Tommy Neal of Walkertown have a tight race between them: the three drivers are only one point apart in the standings. But points leader Ronnie Clifton of Walkertown has a respectable 45 point lead over them.

David Sumner of Trinity claims the top spot on the ladder for the 104.1 WTQR Street Stock Series. Sumner was tied with Ryan Nelson of Winston-Salem, but broke the tie when he finished second on Saturday. Nelson keeps the race close, but falls back to second in the points.

In the Time Warner Cable Stadium Stock Series, Johnny Burke of Midway wins on Saturday, strengthening his points lead. Dale Barneycastle of Mocksville leaps up into the second spot on the ladder with a fifth place finish.

This weekend is Advance Auto Parts weekend at Bowman Gray Stadium – a two-day show culminating in the Advance Auto Parts 199 for the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour.
