What type of transmissions is everyone running auto or manual?? Im curious as to which one would be better to run at riverhead and why AND who rebuilds 4.3 engines around here!! thanks

I'm the newest newbie there is, and the truck I have has an automatic in it. I can't really offer you up any type of comparison, because everything I've ever driven on that track has been automatic.

Most of us run with an auto in 2nd gear. Too much shifting with a manual transmission at the head.

Not necessarily. With a 3 speed you would shift for the green and let the drivetrain do the rest. With the right gears a 3 or 4 speed would work fine. But I am sure most run an automatic.

I ran a POS ranger 5 speed manual the 1st race this year, much better chevy s10 auto, 2 other races later on this year. Like 38 said, we leave the autos in 2nd gear, I did the same with the manual (only because if you went to 3rd, you couldnt get back to 2nd). I prob would have done just as well with a good motor & tranny. So I'd say, run what you have, but if you have a choice, auto may be easier, especially with a new racer. Less to deal with.
