I am a bit confused to how a magnet on a gas pedal can increase horsepower ?

NASCAR inspectors found magnets under the gas pedals of the No. 18 and No. 20 Toyota’s when the cars were sent to the chassis dyno following Saturday’s race at Michigan International Speedway.

What's the deal with this ?

This was an attempt to throw off the chassis dynos NASCAR use.

With those magnetic spacers, the officials wouldn't be able to go full throttle and thus the dyno's numbers would read less horsepower.

Gibbs claims all involved did it without telling anyone ?

I bet there will be some record fines and suspensions going down.
