No, we don't have a private jet...home is a suburb of Cleveland.
What a beautiful day for racing. Nary a cloud in the sky. All day, I kept telling everyone around me that the featured presentation was the nightcap and the taxicabs were just the opening act.
If the truth be told, both races were good races. Lots of swaps for the lead in the East series race. Teddy was strong and lead start to finish in the Mod race, but there was a lot of passing behind him. Beers put on a great show. With 55 laps to go, nearly all the second pack pitted -- except for Teddy and Preece who had checked out. Beers got up to third before the tires likely gave way.
Jimmy Blewett seemed to be mid-pack most of the race, but was there right at the end, sneaking by Preece on the green, white, checker. He said Teddy was "toast" if there had been another lap, and he may have been right. He also gave him a left-handed compliment, when he said, tongue firmly in cheek, that Ted "has been driving for 100 years or so."
Hossfeld had a terrible day with the broken axle. We'll see if he can come back after leading the points most of the year.
The crowd was decent for the race being so far from Mod country. HD Net was there for the taxicab race, but the cameras were unfortunately not used for the modified race. They held the autograph session before the Camping World race, so the mods weren't on the track. The drivers were all behind the pit wall, but my wife and I still got to get lots of autographs for our kids, and saw Howie and Mary too. We thanked each driver for coming all the way out to Ohio.
I know its a long way from home, but I selfishly hope this race is on the schedule again next year. Just 7 cautions for 40 laps meant for a lot of great racing.
All in all, a great day.
