MIKE LEATY, TONY HANBURY, JIM STEFFENHAGEN JR., KEITH BUTLER ALL TAKE FEATURE WINS AS 2008 TRACK CHAMPIONS ARE CROWNED

The final night of racing at Spencer Speedway came to an end with Buck Catalano, from nearby Ontario , NY , picking up the championship in the NASCAR Weekly Modifieds, while Tony Hanbury, from Owego , NY , took the 35-lap feature victory.

“Tony did everything he could do in taking the win,“ commented Catalano. “I just knew where I had to finish to take the title. The title was in my hands as the points leader going into tonight.”

In the NASCAR Tour-Type Modifieds it would be Tony Hanbury taking the track title, with Mike Leaty beating out his father Jan, both from Williamson, NY, in the 30-lap feature.

“I was just glad to finish the race, yet let alone get a top three finish., stated Hanbury.

In “Full Fender” action Don Stevens, Rochester , NY , finished second to Jim Steffenhagen Jr., also from Rochester , in the 20-lap feature to take home the Street Stock title. Keith Butler, from Marion , NY , didn’t even have to start the race to earn the Super Six championship. He did start and he won the 20-lap feature to top off a great season.

A special appearance by the Four Cylinder cars was greeted with great enthusiasm. Tim Dunn, from Watertown , NY took home the 15-lap feature win driving his Honda.

This ends the 2008 oval track season at Spencer Speedway, the “ NASCAR Place to Race” each and every Friday throughout the summer.
