Cars sit too low, what adjustments would there be? Getting on and off the main racing surface.

The tracks now smooth and has grad. banking. Yes its high banked, but so is Thompson. i think it can be done and would be great.

When they ran the All Pro series back in the day at Bristol they had issues with the Wide 5's breaking, so that could possibly be an issues if they don't test it out beforehand.

How fast,i imagine they would set the speed record for the track. And speaking of bristol, please go into the classifieds and you will read about bristol race tickets[mine] for the spring race .Great seats[plus a camping spot big enough to park up to a 45' rv]and for cost no profit.
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL ON THE JAM!

They would be really fast there probably to fast.I have heard that they raced there in the seventies. They would probably make them run restrictor plates like they do at Loudon after all they wouldn"t want them to be faster and than their glorified taxi cab:applause:s that usually race there.I will believe it when I see it what will be a better show Mods or Cup.I will take Mods hands down any day of the week.

Nascar should get a few cars together for a test/plates/tires etc .maybe something good could come out of this. Its got the makings of the greatest show on earth!!!!!

In the 90s they covered it with dirt and ran the World of Outlaw sprint cars there two years in a row. If I remember right, they were about 3 seconds faster than the Sprint Cup taxi cabs. In fact, they wouldn't let fans sit in the bottom rows for fear of a flip. The cars were pinned down on the left rear so hard in the corners -- they didn't lift -- they had to cut the front corner of the outside wing panel off so they could see. I would think the modifieds would be at least 1.5 or 2 seconds faster than the taxi cabs.

You don't have to worry about NASCAR being worried about them being faster than the CUP cars, if i'm not mistaken every series that ran there last year were faster than the CUP cars, I know the Late-Models were. This is more than a rumor, I work in the racing media and this info was relayed to me by an owner of a racing series who was in negotiations to have his series replace the Hooter Pro Cup race.

Jaws, I go down there every August for the race. Using a pickup truck pulling a pop up camper I usually make it in about 13 hours with the usual pit stops. I'm sure it can be done quicker depending on your stop time.

Jaws,i would say about 13 hours,[been driving 25' or 29' rv] and thats taken my time, easy ride and traffic isnt bad at all especially if you leave through back exit[by dragway].Theres traffic but i would say it moves at 40 mph and it brings you up like 5 exits further on 81 from the track.

Cup cars avg 125 or so there, so Mods would probably be 130-135 avg. Top Speed? who knows?

Last time I was at Bristol was for when they put dirt on it for the woo sprint races back in 2000 and 2001 and Sammy Swindell won both of them:mad:; they were so fast; like over 150 mhr that they blocked off the first 20 rows!

i'm just worried it will be like the UARA Late-Model race or the ASA Late-model race last year. The cars are so fast, they can't race each other, they are holding on for dear life by theirselves. Bristol was impressive to look at, but the racing I saw was terrible. The mods would be even faster, thats whats scaring me that it won't be good. And i can't beleive they made this race without having a single car come test it out. From what i hear the track itself are the ones that wanted this race, for the simple fact that they could get more Northern fans down to fill the stands for the other races also.

The Track now has 2 separate grooves. The drivers need to use both lanes and use a lot of give and take. I do hope there is a long practice session.

The track wanted the Mods?...so Bruton Smith does have a heart for the Modifieds then. After, all, his car dealership, Town and Country Ford does sponsor the North-South Shootout.

I'm sure Bruton loved the 2 Mod races at NHMS in 2008, and that did nothing but help the chances of this race being added at another of his tracks in
2009.

well while reading blogger Boy Shawns peice http://blogs.courant.com/autoracing/2008/12/shortened-modified-tour-schedu.html the date is Wednesday, Aug. 19 and a quote from TC on this deal from the article is "No [expletive]?" reigning Whelen Modified Tour champion Ted Christopher said after being told Bristol was on the schedule. "Get your [courage] out for that one. I figured they'd at least test they're a bit before they sent us down that. That should be interesting. At least we're going somewhere different. I could care less if we run in the middle of the week."
