I received email yesterday from Todd Schelin, Roy's son. I wanted to pass along the gratitude he expressed on behalf of the entire Schelin family for the outpouring of support from the racing community following Roy's passing, as well as the "thoughtful and sincere" comments posted here in the forums.
Todd, a former Riverhead competitor himself, had the attached photo of Roy with his "original #1 racer" sent in, and I wanted to share it with all of the Jam readers, since Roy touched so many people in some way or another - whether it was just a smile and a friendly greeting, or taking the time to discuss racing, life in general, or just sharing some tidbit of knowledge. According to Todd, the photo was taken sometime in/around the 1950s.
