TULSA, Okla. — Dirt-track racer Tim McCreadie, who won the 2006 Chili Bowl Nationals, was injured during Wednesday’s second night of competition at the 23rd annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals indoors at Tulsa Expo Raceway.

McCreadie was leading the night’s first A Qualifier when the rear axle snapped in his machine and sent him into a violent flip over the catch fence at the fifth-mile dirt track.

McCreadie is hospitalized with a fractured T3 vertebra and has floating bone fragments in his spine.

According to USAC's James Spink, a close friend of McCreadie's, the Watertown, N.Y., son of Barefoot Bob McCreadie is “doing better” today (Thursday), but is “extremely sore.”

Unfortunately, the former World of Outlaws Late Model Series champion, who races for his living, does not have health insurance.

McCreadie was fitted for a back and neck brace on Thursday afternoon.

As the process of setting up a trust fund to help a racer is involved and time consuming, USAC officials including Spink, Jason Smith and USAC President Kevin Miller have taken the lead in managing the recovery fund until one can be established.

Interestingly, McCreadie is not a regular competitor in USAC competition, and the Chili Bowl is not a USAC sanctioned event.

Stay tuned for benefit information for McCreadie’s recovery.
