Hi Randy. I thought I'd open a thread to see what was new as far as the Frost Bite race at Orange. I've never attended a race at Orange, but I'm hearing good things about it.

Do you have a tentative schedule of events in place yet? I just need to figure if I need to do a day swap at work to attend.

I've only seen LMSC races there Smitty, but it is an awesome track. You better go ahead and get your plans together to be there bud.

I used these directions a few weeks ago. I figured these from my house in Lexington, NC . It came up about 93 miles
Directions from Greensboro:
Orange County Speedway
8: Take I-85 N thru GREENSBORO.
9: Then take EXIT 161 toward NC-86 N/ US-70. 0.3 mi
10: Take the US-70 E/ RT-86 N exit, EXIT 161. 0.2 mi
11: Turn LEFT onto I-85 CONN N/ US-70 CONN E. 1.1 mi
12: Turn SLIGHT RIGHT onto US-70 E. 2.6 mi
13: Turn SHARP LEFT onto NC-86 at the Citgo station. 0.4 mi
14: Turn RIGHT onto NC-57. 12.8 mi
15: End at 9740 Nc Highway 57 Rougemont, NC 27572
In my Atlas it looks like from the North.
You can come down Hwy 360 right by South Boston Speedway
Then take Hwy 501 to Hwy 57
15: End at 9740 Nc Highway 57 Rougemont, NC 27572
If you need any thing until then you can contact me at bensfrequencyclyb@yahoo.com

I'll be there working on the crew for one of the vintage cars. Its the yellow #73 which is a '67 Camaro. I won't be there on Friday... it's the wifes birthday and I can't play a trump card the first race of the race season. ;) That might make for a long year!

But we will be there for all day Saturday. Can't wait to see the mod squad turn 13.5 sec laps at OCS. Will be interesting to see how they end up racing as compared to the typical high line that the late models use with the narrow tire.

Decent race. A Little excitement not much. Jay Foley got into Tony Hanbury early..

Brunnhoelzl was a man on a mission this afternoon. Car looked really good. He ran down Silk during the race before the pit stop. After the pit stop it looked as if Brunnhoelzl layed back a little and got in close to Silk. A few lap cars got in the way and Silk made contact with the 15 car of Daryl Krentz. 15 car spun and collected another lap car and Brunnhoelzl. He did get his car back out and I don't think you could go a lap down under caution.. and came back through the field. Silk looked to have things wrapped up and Hirschman came out of nowhere really and took home the checkered flag. 59 79 5 28 14 71 is where I saw everyone... ASA could have things a little different. A lot of cars were a lap down.. hard to tell. Burt Myers went a lap down after not pitting with the rest of the field. Wish I had a rundown guys..... just trying to fill ya in on what I saw. That's all that sticks out in my mind though. A lot of good battles back in the field...

It was my first time at the track but I'd describe the crowd as very light. Some locals we sat next to said it was a "pretty large crowd" compared to normal.

Don't know why it was such a low turnout. It's a very nice track. Good racing. Great weather. $20 admission. Maybe it's the recession. I hope next weekend at South Boston will be better.

Wow!! I can't believe that tiny crowd. I would have loved to make it myself but it wasn't in the cards. If these people knew what a long hard winter was maybe that would be different. They need some Oswego Co. Lake Effect, that will fix them. (lol) Mods don't sell in NC? :confused:doesn't seem right. Looking at the pics I get a Holland Speedway feel for the place. I just put it on my "bucket list".:applause:

Just to clarify for Brian.....

When Silk got into the 15, the 15 spun and collected the last car on the lead lap, which was the 42 of Tony Hanbury. George Brunnhoelzl, III had no where to go and was stuck under the rear of the 42.

Tony was racing to stay on the lead lap was was going to move over for Silk after he cleared Krentz. Krentz was at least FOUR LAPS DOWN. Silk got into Krentz and Tony had no choice but to stop to not hit the 15.

Unfortunately, we lost a lap (which I STILL feel was wrong) because of the incident.

That's what I was furious about after the race.

Congratulations to Matt Hirschman. From what I could tell, the race for the lead between Matt and Ronnie was exciting. Just wished our day (I was spotting for Hanbury) would have turned out better.

This was my first visit to Rougemont after reading about it all these years. Definately a nice little race track!

I really enjoyed my day at OCS on Saturday. I thought the race was pretty good. Lots of battles throughout the field. I think Ronnie Silk may have pushed the issue with the 15 car a little bit but I also think the 15 should have gave a little more considering how many laps he was down.

I know folks are excited about a North/South combo show at Martinsville or Bristol....but OCS would make a great venue for that also. I look foward to the future and the modifieds return to Rougemont.

I don't blame the 15 car... He was low. He couldn't go high. Silk went into a road block and had no where to go. I hate Brunnhoelzl was involved. That would have been a good battle. I guess that passing flag gets ignored sometimes...

How anyone could blame silky is crazy for the deal with the #15 car, he's the leader of the race and the passing flag was used very little, like somebody else said what is he supposed to do stop..... give me a break. I hate the #28 got caught up in that deal he had a good hot-rod, the officiating was terrible, from the pit road flag man to the #42 car just name a couple. I hate that the car count was so low for Charles he made an increditable speech to the drivers that did support him, what a class act he is.

No question in my mind: Silk could have been more patient. He punted the 15 as soon as he got to him. He had a good enough car to use more patience. Regardless, it did not change the outcome of the race.

The crowd was terrible. I go to OCS a couple times each year, and weekly shows draw bigger crowds IMO. I hope this race has a "2nd annual" but I would not bet on it.

Advertising was mentioned: they can't possibly advertise enough or pick the right radio stations to cover everyone. I think if the entry list is stronger, more fans will show up, but that was not the case this year.

What was the deal with the 21 car? I read a big press release and the car looked great, but to run that slow and only run a couple laps seemed strange to me. Regardless, I'll be there and they will have more cars than OCS drew.

Caraway will have a much better crowd than this race had, but the weather will be a factor there. They always draw a big crowd for the mods, and without much advertising that I see.

Tinkfan

I was not blaming Ronnie for the wreck. I do agree with NC Mudcat about the patience deal. I do think GB III would have factored in to the winner equation if not for being caught up in the mess.

I enjoyed the day and have already marked my calendar for the return of the modifieds to OCS on July 11th.

That was the frist time the (#21) has ever been on a oval track. He has been running VIR. So he was just trying to get the hang of it and to help out Randy Myers to get a better car count !
