I sure hope the modified community gets behind this race the way they do the North-South Shootout. Orange County is a great little track and the modifieds will definitely put on a great show there.

How about a little trivia? Who won the pole for the first (and last?) Tour race at OCS? I think it may have been 1986?

Cheating on who won the pole and at what speed in 1986, you got to be kidding me. I really doubt there is a person alive who could have know both those bits of info, lol

How much banking do the corners have? I looked at the track on Maps.live
and it looks like Lake Erie to me. Nice little track. Whats' that little oval
just north of OC. About 1/4 mile it seems.

Check out the purse, pretty good for 1986.

The TV Tour, the ROC Tour (except for the 200 at Oswego) or the SWMT do not even pay that purse in 2009.

Hey uticamike,

I don't know the banking but the track lends itself to very competitive two and sometimes three wide racing. The high line in the turns is used quite a bit. There is a Kart track right down the road. That must be what you saw.

From the track's website -

"Orange County Speedway is located in Northeastern Orange County on the site of the original Trico Motor Speedway, which was built in the early 1960s. What originally opened as a dirt facility was paved and is currently a 3/8ths mile (.375) asphalt, high- banked oval track. The oval has 16 degree banking in the straightaway and 19 degree banking in the turns. The banking and wide-sweeping turns make this facility the fastest 3/8 mile track in the country. The track averages 50 feet wide, which offers plenty of room for side by side racing among competitors."

I know it is early but the 10 day forecast is for temps near 60 degrees both Friday and Saturday next week for the race at Orange County. Here is hoping the weather is great and the car count and fan count for the return of modifieds at OCS is out of sight!!

Anyone have the results from the 1987 race at Rougemont (Orange County)? That was the last race Charlie Jarzombek ran before his untimely demise at Martinsville in the race there a week later.

Thanks, Corey, but there was also a race in the Spring of that year. That's the one I was referring to. I had forgotten about the Fall event.
