All cars have gone out T.C. the fastest 15-4s...Problems with bottoming out..

stabone

15-2s.....pretty much flat footed all the way around

MJProcko

restricter plates?

broz
02-24-2009, 01:28 PM
They must be restriciting something? I figured they would be much faster than that

yes plates....15..12...L.W...miller...

If LW did 15.10 around the track that would pretty close to 123 MPH. Not bad.

SIModified
02-24-2009, 02:28 PM
But STILL not as fast as Ryan Newman's track record in a Cup car at 128.709 MPH, 14.908 seconds, on 3/21/03.

I'm thinking in better weather, a modified should kill that record with no problem....

They are in the 14-8s now.... more speed to come

Howie

Apparently 5 of the six cars broke Newman's track record this afternoon, I believe with the plate. I don't think you'll see the plate go away.

NASCAR Now on Speed said TC will be on tomorrow night to talk about the test. Hope they show some footage.

MJProcko

thanks for the update Howie.... I believe Swindell broke 14 secs with the WOO in 2000 so we need to get the plate off if we want a shot at it the title :)

Both NASCAR's and Bristol's stories/times are on the front page here.....
Seems the 2 stories times are different because of plates/no-plates....

My Dad and I talked about these times today. He was just amazed....

He brought up a good point....
How many G's do you think those guys were pulling in the turns? We estimated about 4-5 lateral G's with that banking and those speeds. Makes my eyeballs hurt just thinking about it

Can't wait to see this race! Me, my Dad and my two boys are going to make the trip! Should be a good time :applause:

Wow! Great video's, thanks! After watching and imagining a full field going full out without lifting, I'm even more convinced they should take the plates off. For safety sake, I hope the reconsider.

Man, I really wish I could make this race!

Its nice to see someone (brad daugherty) with some enthusiasm talking up the Mods. I agree with Teddy though,Mods flatout around that place seems nuts. Looking at some of the crashes at that place over the years has me concerned. I hope this race happens.

I think this will be well attended by cars and fans.

Teams will have to make big adjustments after the cars bottomed out like they did at the test.

I almost think they should change the format to twin 75's. Drivers are not used to the G's they will enounter and may need a 15 min break. (The cars too).

The test was very valuable.

In 2000 Bristol was covered with dirt for a World of Outlaws Sprint Car race.
They circled the track in under 14 seconds. If the Modified race is half as good, this will be a great event. Now if only the Modifieds could just get the same media attention. ...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00OmJPBld-I&feature=related

i drove to the test. saw it live. thanks for the youtube video of the day. that was awesome. i only was there in the very early morning. but, just to see the modifieds in the pits was amazing. everyone wearing black... it was freezing! 18 degrees! then, i saw them take the track... it all came back. listen, the tour modifieds are the only thing going in racing... and its always been that way. theses cars and drivers are the heart and soul of true racing and true racers. hot. hot. hot. and, as usual, as always... disrespected. i have not heard of even a tv package. that is on the very of criminal. how downright apalling that again the stage is being set and no respect. there was one mention of the test on sirius. one. nascar seems embarrassed to even mention the crushing of the track record. at martinsville last year, they made sure the trucks had another location far away. no tv. busch far away too. this year though, we get the same weekend. if the race is not covered live it would be the pinnacle of disrespect. and i say... no bucks... no buck rogers. this race will press the limits of safety. i hope they give these modified drivers the purse of the cup. or, at least show some respect and maybe some crumbs off the table of maybe 50% of cup money. no more $8,000 to win. should be more like $125,000.00. really. this will be the best race ever raced on bristol. and listen, these drivers are pushing the limits with safety. look at the frame geometry. it's rigidity. the location of the driver. the g's. transverse, orthagonal impacts, not fun. i hope and pray nascar is going to respect them with, at the very least, some major, major, purse increases. i am telling you these drivers are going to be laying their very souls on the line. so... please... safety first nascar. spend r&d dollars now, then, and only then, give the tour modifieds a rippin purse, and tv! a must. and lastly, of all my years watrching richie... once, i say once... i saw him intentionally taken out. shortly therafter the roof of the perpetrators car was ripped off by richie's crew. once. i must say, i see the "takeouts" today way more frequently. listen, none of that at bristol please. none of it. too much on the line. listen.

It would seem that another open test between now and the race would be of benefit to a lot of teams. There really isn't a whole lot of track time for these guys on Aug 19th. Especially with all the adjustments that the driver and cars will have to make. The more practice the better.

It would be nice but the fact remains that this is a 5pm race on a Wednesday night. Not a great time slot for live racing. Tape delay maybe.

I have been listening to the NASCAR talk shows on the radio(satellite) and there has been quite the amount to comment on the Aug 19th race. Buddy Baker is really looking forward to it and he talked about one of the TNN broadcasts he did @ loudon. This afternoon Randy LaJoie was talking about the up comming race. Finally some really good press time going on!

Ryan Newman's win at New Smyrna certainly generated some exposure for the mods and it's good to see the anticipation of the August race is already growing.
Expect more press about the race during next weekend's events at Bristol.
