Only one more week remains before cars take to the half mile Spencer Speedway asphalt oval. May 15, will mark the annual Test & Tune opener. This event gives race teams a chance to take to the track and start to dial in their machines for 2009. Gates will open at 4 p.m. , with cars taking to the track around 5:30 p.m. . Teams will have the track until it becomes too dark to continue. Grandstands that evening will be open free to the public, however the pit area will have to pay an admission fee.

”This is a great opportunity for racers and team members to update their paper work and purchase their licenses,” stated promoter John White . “For any team that has a transponder, the AMB-it system will be on line that evening to give them accurate times.”

On the track, practicing that evening will be a variety of cars and classes. Participants in the weekly Four Star show, consisting of Weekly Modifieds, Street Stocks, Super Sixes and Auto Value 4-Cylinder Scorpions, will surely be on hand. Also expected are a number of other types of cars.

The Weekly Four Star program starts the following Friday, May 22, on VP Fuels Night. Featured that evening will be the SST Modified Series running a 100-lap season opener, including the Weekly Modified stars from Spencer Speedway. Race time beginnings that night at 7:30 p.m. sharp, with grandstands opening at 5:30 p.m. . Adult admission for opening night will be just $15 for the 100-lapper and support divisions, with children being just $5.

The “Full Fender” guys will fill out that program. Over the years the full fender cars have always been a part of the Spencer Speedway tradition. Opening day will mark the 799th feature run by support class full fender stock cars at the half mile oval. Some 164 different drivers have earned at least one feature win in these support divisions. Last year’s Street Stock champion, Don Stevens sits 21st on the All-Time Full Fender Win List with 9 feature wins.

As for the Super Sixes, opening day will mark their 45th feature run at the flat half mile oval since 2006. Kris Hillegeer sits atop the feature win list with 22 wins total, nearly a 50% winning record in this class. There have been six different feature winners in this division over the last three seasons.

Spencer Speedway is located just fifteen minutes east of Rochester , NY , along Route 104 in the Town of Williamson . Spencer Speedway is the local “ NASCAR Place to Race” for upstate New York . Points earned each week at Spencer are counted into the national NASCAR Whelen All-American Series championship.
