SPENCER FALLS TO RAIN

A bright, beautiful rainbow said it all Friday. Following a half hour of heavy rain, officials pulled the plug on the night. The rains hit just as the white flag flew in the Street Stock heat. The race ended the next lap under yellow-checker conditions. Jim Steffenhagen Jr. easily bested Phil Alhart Jr. Mitchell Wright, Steve Malin, Kris Hillegeer and Dan Scott.

Before the rains fell two Auto Value Four-Cylinder Scorpion heats were also run. In the first one Ed die Hawkins took the lead back on the final lap and won. He was followed by Ryan Brown, Bro Bradshaw, Allison Knoepfler, Kevin Bertolone and Bill Malin. The second heat saw Otis Bradshaw complete a pass in the final turn on then leader Bill Verwys. Verwys got extremely loose allowing Bradshaw to take the lead. Mike Bradshaw came home second followed by Verwys, Beth Dennie, Dale Lazzaro and Russell Peets.

The Kid’s Bicycle Races did take place before the cars took to the speedway. In the 3-5 year old category it was Gavin Fernaays taking the win. Sage Butler came home second followed by Sean Verwys. In the 6-8 year old class it was Ryan Fernaays winning a close one over Katie Lewis and Patsy Catalano. The final class of bicycles was the 9-11 year olds, where Tim Lewis took the win. Ben Frasch and Tim Catalano came home second and third respectively.

Rain checks will be honored this Friday, July 31. On the track will be a complete program of NASCAR Weekly Modifieds, Street Stocks, Super Sixes and Auto Value Four Cylinder Scorpions. Joining the action for the second time this year will be the super fast Cup Lites. Race time starts at 7:30 p.m. sharp/.
