From Wall's website: Saturday the 24th of October

OCTOBER 24 “TOMMY COMERFORD MEMORIAL” AT WALL STADIUM

TO PAY TOUR TYPE MODIFIED WINNER $10,000

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ The long wait between Wall Stadium’s September 5 regular stock car season finale and the November 27 and 28 “Turkey Derby” just got a lot shorter.

Today (July 28) Wall Stadium promoter Jim Morton announced that his third mile paved high banked oval will host the first ever “Tommy Comerford Memorial” on Saturday, October 24. The event, which is being presented by long-time area racing supporters Don Ling, Sr., John Blewett, Sr. and Ray Evernham, will pay the winner of the 150-lap tour type Modified main event an amazing $10,000!

Comerford, who passed away a few years ago due to natural causes, was an 11-time Modified main event winner here with the majority of those victories coming at the wheel of Ling’s No. 66. He was also well-liked and respected by both the fans and competitors.

“I am just so proud that these three outstanding supporters of local racing want to honor Tommy Comerford at our speedway,” Morton said while making the announcement. “Don Ling, John Blewett and Ray Evernham are very well known for their support of this speedway and its racers. I am so proud to have them involved with this event.”

Morton said that race will serve as a qualifier for both the North/South Shootout near Concord, N.C. in early November and for the Turkey Derby. He also said that the details of the 1st ever “Tommy Comerford Memorial,” such as starting times and supporting divisions, are still being worked out and will be announced soon.

Been said before but you have to give Jim Morton a lot of credit. Took a huge chance last year on the Turkey Derby and has parlayed that into the track being open this year and from we hear at least next year as well. Congrats Jim !!!

Best of luck to all who attend, but I'll be at the NELMA race. It was scheduled first, and I am committed to it. It's a good race, too. :)

Great job by Jim Morton. $10,000 to win is great, but what does the rest of the purse look like ?

True worm, but the Wall race is after the season so maybe people will be more inclined the risk wrecking than in the middle of the season

I love the purse but I agree that another end of season race in a bad economy a week before the Shootout will test the pocketbook of many teams. I'd say 25 cars sounds about right. I think a lot of teams will end up picking one race or the other (Wall or N/S Shootout). What does the Derby pay?

Too bad they scheduled it opposite the TVMRS finale so I can't go, nor can a lot of other people.

Maybe but the TVMS didn't have that many cars at the Seekonk Open. I don't see a whole lot of them going to Wall. They only have a few who are even running their whole schedule. I hope Wall gets 50 cars. I'm just saying the trend has been fewer cars everywhere this season.

And hope for no rain at the World Series as most all can tell you that have been to Thompson, they have raced late October even the first weekend in November because of mother nature

Wall will get cars from NJ, LI, Pa.,Upstate NY, CT. the tour, maybe a couple from down south and a couple TV cars.

There should be a nice field for that race.

Nice! It will be a good field of Modifieds...this should draw a big crowd of spectators too! I've been real impressed with Wall Stadium from a fans point of view. The grandstands are full of kids and their entire families, Jersey shore vacationers as well as old school 'regulars'. The place has had a great vibe in general!

true, but i would say based on what wall draws for turkey derby plus the fact that seekonk's race was mid-season and not after the season makes for more cars at wall.

Still pretty big considering the place was closed for almost a year
