The 2009 racing season may have seemed wetter then normal to many, however Spencer has only lost three nights to rain, matching the rainout counts of 2006 and 2007.

Last week’s rainout, the second straight week in a row, had not been seen at the track since 2005, when both August 12 and 18 were lost to the rain.

When the action has been able to run at Spencer the results have been spectacular. The NASCAR Weekly Modifieds have produced six different winners in just seven races. Tony Hanbury has been the only driver to have found victory lane more then once in 2009, winning on May 22 and 29 to record back-to-back feature wins. Other drivers earning a win in 2009 include Buck Catalano, Amy Catalano, Anthony Jankowiak, Chris Finocchario and Bill Hebing

In the Touring Modifieds two races have been recorded, with two different winners, Mike Leaty and Erick Rudolph.

Jim Steffenhagen Jr. is on a win streak that could set a record. No driver at Spencer has won every feature run during a season. Currently Jim, and his crate motored Monte Carlo, are seven-for-seven in the Street Stock division.

In the Super Sixes there has been four different feature winners. Started in 2007, just two drivers made victory lane in this division that year. Last season the number jumped up to just three different drivers. So 2009 has seen more different feature winners in this class then ever before. Winners include Craig Butler, Skip Powers, Keith Butler Jr. twice and three wins for Kevin DeVuyst.

Finally the new Auto Value Four Cylinder Scorpions are on the track for the first time ever. Former Weekly Modified driver Eddie Hawkins has accumulated five feature wins. Only Bill VerWys has broken Hawkins’s string of victories in 2009.

Specials in both the NORA Limited Supermodifieds and Cup Lites have also been run. Both events produced first time Spencer Speedway winners, Scott Wyle in the Cup Lites and Dave Gruel in the NORA feature.

There are currently just six races left in the 2009 season at Spencer. This Friday, July 31, will see the return of the Cup Lites for their second time in 2009, along with a Four Star program of NASCAR Weekly Modifieds, Street Stocks, Super Sixes and Auto Value Four Cylinder Scorpions.

The month of August starts off, on August 7, with a regular Four Star program, costing adults just $10. The following week sees the return of the Race of Champions Modified Tour. Back in June that tour brought with it 35 cars to the speedway. Topping the night’s action will be a complete Four Star program

On August 21 the SST Modifieds, along with the addition of the NASCAR Weekly Modifieds, will run a 100-lap event. The regular weekly divisions at the speedway will round out the action that night.

The final Friday of August has been tagged as the final appearance of the Cup Lites at the speedway in 2009. A regular Four Star show is also scheduled for that night, along with the final chance for the Kids to take to the speedway in the Kids’ Bicycle Races.

Friday, September 4 marks the final race of the 2009 oval track season at Spencer. A spacial Four Star program will be staged that evening to determine the 2009 track champions.

Spencer Speedway is located just fifteen minutes east of Rochester, NY, along Route 104 in the Town of Williamson. Spencer Speedway is the local “NASCAR Place to Race” for upstate New York.
