If so why in the world wouldnt it be in use? What would it take to keep track of the cars and trucks by computer? There must be a way.

TRANSPONDERS !!!!! The wire is in the track, RH needs to buy about $6k worth of equipment and either buy and rent individual transponders or make the racers buy there own.

The WMT, Wall & SVS use them as well.

if the wire is already in the track, they should give you the option to buy and use one in the enduro's instead of a scorer. But not make it mandatory.

Yes, the wire is there, put in for the go karts. To be used with regular race cars, the track owners would have to buy about 200+ transponders, plus an adequate amount of chargers for them, and have someone who knows how to run the computer system. So the outlay we're talking here is about the size of a WMT purse, a large investment to make.
If most drivers decide at some point to buy their own, so as to save the weekly rental and all that goes with it, the track owners are then stuck with an untold amount of transponder units they now DON'T need, but paid big bucks for.

Just my opinion on all of the above, but think about it as a big investment on something for fields that are sometimes large, or shrink as the economy changes, and you can't argue with the fact that not many would want to take the financial risk associated with it.

Riverhead is one of the few tracks in the NE that still doesn't facilitate the use of transponders.................
Sometimes, I think RH's rationalization for not getting with the transponder "program" is the fact that they don't want to lose the scorers gate money..............................

They should take a look into this option... We rent the units from GP, then rent them out to our drivers... They cost about $20 per unit to rent for each event and the cost includes shipping each way with a case to charge them....

At NEETS, we rent them out to our drivers for $20 each, but we don't charge a driver if they have their own unit. Plus, the speedway could easily rent them out for $25 or $30 each and profit off them....but that is something NEETS doesn't do....

It's always an option....plus GP rents out all the equipment needed to run the show...including laptops!

Just a thought....
