RACING AT SPENCER FALLS TO MOTHER NATURE

WILLIAMSON, NY…NASCAR Season at Spencer Speedway going into the weekend. A huge rain storm coming from the southwest, prompted promoter John White to “pull the plug” on racing Friday, August 28.

“Unfortunately we had to cancel the races at Spencer, but we felt we could save everyone by acting quickly,” stated White. “We were looking at a 70% chance of rain for the night and the radar confirmed we were going to get wet.”

The NORA Limited Supermodifieds and Cup Lites were scheduled, but due to the season coming to a close will not be rescheduled. The Kid’s bicycle races have also been canceled and will not be rescheduled.

On tap this Friday, September 4, is “Championship Night” featuring the four main divisions racing at the speedway; NASCAR Weekly Modifieds, Street Stocks, Super Sixes and Auto Value Four Cylinder Scorpions. All divisions will be running their regular distance events.

In the NASCAR Weekly Modifieds the points come down to a “Family Feud plus 2”. Amy Catalano currently leads brother-in-law Buck by five points. Also within striking distance are Chris Finocchario and Kevin Timmerman. If Amy can maintain her point lead she will become the first open wheel modified female champion at Spencer. She already holds two Spencer Speedway Street Stock titles in her resume.

Jim Steffenhagen Jr. appears to have sewn up the Street Stock title having a commanding point margin over Kris Hillegeer. If Steffenhagen Jr. margin holds, this will make his second championship at Spencer. He won the Street Stock title back in 2007.

Keith Butler Jr., by taking the green, will repeat as champion in the Super Six division. He will become the first repeat champion in that division. The new Auto Value Scorpions will have two champions; Pro class and Beginner class. Bill VerWys will win the 2009 Pro Class title, while the Beginners class title is still up for grabs. Ryan Brown holds the upper hand over Bro Bradshaw, Mike Bradshaw and Alison Knoepfler; all of whom have a shot at the Beginners title.

Race time on Friday, September 4 will be 7:30 p.m. sharp. This event will be the final event of the 2009 season.

Spencer Speedway is located just fifteen minutes east of Rochester , NY , along Route 104 in the Town of Williamson . Spencer Speedway is the local “ NASCAR Place to Race” for upstate New York . Points earned each week at Spencer are counted into the national NASCAR Whelen All-American Series championship.
