Flemington was a cool track...I only visited it a few times as a dirt track - I hear it was THE place to be for dirt Mods in the 70's - but I followed the asphalt Mods there for quite a few shows after they got booted out of Wall. The ROC and Mod Tour races there were great too. I remember being real sceptical that the square shape of the track would work with the low slung Mods...I was wrong! The only complaint I had for Flemington was the poor sight lines due to the infield parking. That place had a great fairgrounds type atmosphere and was one of the last of that breed of track. I miss the place.

Russ; the Isma Supers were really so fast there; but I remember they could pass because Russ Wood won from I think 12th  ounce and Chris Perley broke the track record at 154.00 mph back in 1999

Yes, the supers were incredible to watch there (well, anywhere really!)
Passing on the low side with that tall inner guardrail really took guts!

Some wrong information above. Steve Whitt won Tar Car Championship in 2000, Jimmy B. only ran a hand full of races. Pete Brittain won the full blown Mod title in 1998.

wow- how did I miss this thread?

Good stuff. I went there as a little kid (72 - 75) nearly every SAT nite. Good times. They had a nice Flem fair reunion at the Hunterdon County 4H fair at the end of AUG. I saw Frankie Schnieder there. He still looks great! They had a lot of cool, old cars there too from that era, 81 coupe (Billy Osmun), Les Farley's #808, Tas' old coach...

I went back after many years off in 1994. Saw that incredible RoC when Billy Pauch started scratch and won it on a last lap pass and also remmebr the soggiest ROC ever. They really should not have raced that day! Went to a boatload of SAT night and special races there from 94 - 2000, but mostly in the 96-00 timeframe. Good times.

Hey Alex,

I guess you could call that a last lap pass but what Pauch actually did that day was literally run right over the back of Mike Ewanitsko who had the dominant car for most of that day.

I loved Flemington as dirt and as asphalt. Still feel a twinge of sadness every time I drive by exit 17 on Route 78 in New Jersey.
