Haven't heard much talk yet about the Shootout with the points race going hot and heavy. But it isn't not far away!

What teams are definitely coming? Though it's nice to have other higher paying races around I hope these other promoters don't keep trying to water down the end of year races and draw away from the Shootout then we all end up with nothing in a couple of years.

Never been but would love to.. To help me arrange plans, what time would you expect the modifieds to be done racing on the Saturday night?

Great to see that C&C will be able to get such an excellent race on TV. Hopefully that will make it easier for teams to secure sponsorships and be a part this great race.

I've gone every year since the 1st one when JB III and Marquis put on one of the greatest finishes ever. Wouldn't miss this race for anything. Axel, you won't be disappointed

Just a reminder.
Coolers and drinks CAN be brought into the gate this year. The race track learned a hard lesson after having the policy all of last year, with it really causing a lot of ill feelings during the shootout. We had tried to tell them all year it was a bad idea but it took the Shootout( largest gate all year) to get their attention.

They changed it back to more or less what it was before last year, except alcohol is still a no-no.

From the Concord Speedway website:
Cooler Rules (Both Tracks)
No coolers over 14 inches.
Alcoholic beverages are not allowed to be brought into the park.
All parcels brought into the park are subject to search.
Glass containers are not allowed.
Consumption of alcohol is allowed only outside the family grandstand.

P.S. Also be mindful that many of the local cities and counties here have started to recieve the "stimulus" money from the gov, and road construction/repair has sprung up everywhere, be prepared for possible delays.

I am planning on making the trip. Staying with my dad in Hamptonville. I have never been before but I hear it is the one event you don't want to miss. I wish I has a spotting job, but our cars are staying home. Anyone needing a spotter, hit me up at muffykars@gmail.com

I'm still irked I'm not going this year, but I'll give some advice to any first-timers:
The Shootout is like the 500 - prepare for any kind of weather!
A few years ago I started the day in longjohns, a t-shirt, a flannel shirt and a jacket. By about 1:00 PM I was down to just the t-shirt. By the time the Mod feature rolled off I had put everything back on (yes, I did wear pants the whole time!).
Y'all have a good time, the Shootout is a great event.

Should be the biggest gate the event has ever seen. A lot of folks are coming to see the Late Models that would not have been otherwise. Charles has a nice problem: where to pit everybody.

I will remind that the whole no cooler/drinks allowed in thing will not happen this year. Coolers 14" and under allowed, no glass or alcohol ( sorry for the beer drinkers, you'll have to pay what the track wants for a Cup).

I would advise filling up on food before you get to the race track, Concord has the highest concession prices of any short track in North or South Carolina, we have been on them about it for awhile but they seem to not understand. It's more of an issue for a weekly show than a big event like the Shootout, but be warned: It's not cheap to eat at the track.

Bring warm clothing. The forecast is great (sunny, highs in the 60's both days) but Concord can be a cold place if the wind gets up, so be prepared.
Also be prepared for not the best restroom facilities ( unless they bring in some port a johns). The small restrooms at the track really can't handle the size of the crowd on a weekend like this ( in other words, bring you own paper or you may get caught short).

Also , expect delays on the roads around here. I-85 in Cabarrus County has been one lane a lot this past week and many other local roads are being torn up really for no reason ( the county has to spend that stimulus money).

Everybody traveling down this weekend be safe and come enjoy some Southern hospitality.

Just a tibit of info for anyone coming from I-85 South. Don't go all the way to the Concord exit, hit Dale Earnhardt Blvd (exit 60) and turn left at the top of the ramp. Go about two miles and turn left onto HWY 3, and run it out till it merges with HWY 601, the track is on the right about 4 miles after you get on 601. I have found this a lot better than going through all the congestion of Concord.

Agreed. Found that way my first year. If you are staying in the Kannapolis area or near Copperfield blvd (which runs into Dale Earnhardt Blvd) use this way

When I was looking for hotels for this weekend I was suprised at the prices compared to years past. I figured that meant there would be a good crowd. Now I see that the WoO is at LMS this weekend too. Maybe the week after would work out better?

I don't know about Saturday, but they are paving Hwy. 3 right in the Cooperfield area behind the hospital down to where it crosses Hwy. 73.
Could be an issue tomorrow (with school buses and such) than Saturday.

That may be part of the new hotel tax to help get the money up to pay Bruton Smith. Bruton has filed suit against the City and County, he wants his 40 million he was promised when he built the Zmax dragway.

I think they have ran the same weekend the entire time, I know they have the last few years, last year people were leaving the Shootout at the gate and heading to Lowes when they found out they couldn't bring coolers in, I talked to a few of them in the parking lot.

It was awful last weekend when i went throught there for the UARA event, thought it jarred my spine, in some places it feels like it will flatten you tires, they have grinded the top layer of asphalt up.
