Tuesday morning my broadcast partner Jeff Bressler phoned from the annual SEMA trade show in Las Vegas with very disturbing news concerning our beloved Father Dan Bitsko. Just moments after an acceptance speech after the Smithtown Historical Society honored him. Father Dan, while sitting with fellow members of the Smithtown Fire Department suffered a serious stroke. Jeff, who was seated with Father Dan and other Smithtown FD members, rushed Father Dan to St. Catherine Hospital in Smithtown. As of this morning 11-03-09, Father Dan is in guarded condition and in an induced coma at St. Catherine. Jeff, who among the many hats he wears is the Public Information Officer for the Smithtown FD and will update daily Father Dan’s condition, which you can view at SmithtownFD.org. From the days of Islip Speedway and up until a few years ago Father Dan served as the track Chaplain for Riverhead Raceway and of course also his beloved NY Islanders of the NHL. Father Dan can’t receive any visitors or cards at this time, but please keep him in your prayers as he did us when we needed them!
