Riverhead Raceway is having a Whelen Tour race on July 31.

I am looking for a few people who would like to help me sponsor the race.

A race sponsored by race fans.

My goal is to make it possible for every guy who qualifies to go home with a thousand bucks.

Send me a private message if you are interested.

Based on last years purse, I would only need 10,000 bucks to cover it. I'm putting up 2000 and I may have two others who will do the same. If that happens, I'm not far from the goal at all.

I can't commit any financial help, College and all makes it a bit difficult.

However, if this happens I will support the race by being there, having never been to Riverhead before it sounds like a great track.

Thanks,
Jeff Wentworth.

Just a question, was the Riverhead race an unsponsored race last year? Also it that money the real money or the money including the end of teh year sponsor money??

The Bullfather
11-13-2009, 02:27 PM
can you sell laps on a tour race??????

limodmaniac
11-13-2009, 04:41 PM
I'm not sure but other than me coming up with some money for the winner and I think one other person ( for fast time? not really sure) I don't think there was a sponsor. I'm not sure, but maybe if I had done it earlier, it coule have been called the LongIslandModManiac 150. Hmmmmm... that has a nice sound!

I got the idea last minute when I saw the posted purse. I don't think this includes any bonus money. I think that is the cash each driver left with in their pockets after the races were done Saturday night. The only change in the cash purse was the extra money I ended up giving to Ryan Preece.

Again not sure, but I don't think they do lap money at Whelen races. I guess anything is worth asking to find out if it's possible. Lap money doesn't help the majority of drivers. I'd like to see it possible that ALL drivers leave Riverhead feeling good. As good as 10,000 to win sounds....it could be a smash fest.

33 -$700
16 -$675
36 -$1225
18 -$600
19 -$550
09 -$527
4 - $500
11 -$300
84 -$300
79 -$500
14 -$300
DNQ
59 -$200
68 -$0
26 -$0
9 -$0

Total Payout $31,837

Purse Payout $22,727
Bonus Money Paid Out $7,700
LIMM To The Winner $1,400

And I think another $150 to the Pole winner from one of the weekly Modified racing teams and you could add that money to what the #3 won.

It looks like $6,000 would do it, but with $10,000 you could do a lot more.

What ever we can get to help the drivers will be great!

Was that an offer of sponsorship Mod11Racer?

The Bullfather
11-13-2009, 08:09 PM
The sponsor for each lap would go into the over all pot, I know Riverhead has races like this and some races we've sold up to 7 rounds for each lap. I don't know if we could do it for the tour race with Whelen and Nascar. But the money would help add to the purse, maybe $50-100 per lap. Just a suggestion to help raise the purse.

My guess is whatever money we can collect, be it 2000 , 100 or 10 dollars per person , we just add it together and see what we have. Then we call Bob Finan and say the FANS want to sponsor the race. We can call it the Modified Fans 200 or the Friends of Modifieds 200. I'm not sure how much before July 31 we have to have this all figured out, but I"m hoping by mid May.

Of course, if the track finds their own sponsor, then we can just throw it in as extra money. The more money, the better it is for the drivers.

Lap money is no longer done for Tour races. I believe the Tour put an end to that. If you are the title sponsor of the race that money will go to the track as an "advertising" fee and then they will divide what's left into the purse. That is just business. If you personally add it to the purse as LIMM did then the drivers get it all. I may have a title sponsor for the race, we are working on that as we speak. If you are able to raise money give it to the drivers directly yourself, if you want them to get all of it.

That's great! Yup, our goal is not really to be the sponsor of the race, but just to give the drivers something extra. Let them know we appreciate the hard work they do and the enjoyment we get out of watching them race.

Don't forget you want to hand deliver that money to the drivers after the race and not leave it up to the track. No offense to Riverhead but you want to make sure the money goes into the drivers pockets.

I can see it know the Longislandmodmaniac walking around the track with a brief case full of money and a security guard next to him.

limodmaniac
11-13-2009, 09:32 PM
Actually I didnt hand the money to Preece. The money was in good hands.. Bob Finan took good care of me. Thanks again , Bob.

Oh and Bobby1717, that would be July 31. You have almost 8 months to make plans on getting to Riverhead for your first time ever. If you want to be security guard for the day, you can have the job. But you have to see a race at the Head!

Look back at page one of this post at purse breakdown (based on last year's purse) I've listed two possiblilties. One, 5000 to win with 800 to qualify. Or 3275 to win and 1000 to start.

What do you think Jaws? Any opinions out there as to what would be best?

Bobby1717
02-11-2010, 08:26 PM
I guess it all depends if Nascar lets you hand out the money the way you want to like in the past true Value races you did. If Nascar won't let you do what you want I would say put the money towards the front of the field.

If they say you can do what you want you can give bonus to highest finishing Riverhead regular, 75$ bonus for the winner of the consi race. Maybe think about who are the legends of the mods on Long Island. Hand out a small bonus to those who finish a certain position that matches the car number of a mod legend (1, 5, 7, 6-1). Maniac you would know better than me. I'm just trying to think outside the box. Or a 1000 bonus to any ROC (car) or MRS that shows up and is the highest finisher or get in the top 10.

Maniac - first and foremost, kuddos for leading this grass roots charge. It's way cool that you're doing this again. If NEAR ever has a fan category, you're my nomination. I don't know all of the NASCAR intricacies, but having attended the race several times as a non-islander, IT'S A HAUL! I'd bias the purse towards tow/start money.

I think I like the $5,000.00 to win option, Its only $200.00 less for the last spots and the $5,000.00 to win just looks so much better. If I hit Powerball between now and then I would so spice up that purse.

Hey Maniac - since Hollywood didn't take me up on my bet, I'll join Axel and pledge $100 to the cause. I believe in what you're doing, and hope that our fellow TCH family might consider doing the same to the best of their ability. Just as the season wouldn't seem right without the Mystic Missile, so too if we couldn't get a proper showing at Riverhead. Keep up the great work, and please PM me as to how best to honor my pledge.

Thanks to Hossfan for another 200, so we are now up to 8305.

In an attempt to get to our goal of 10,500 sooner, we are in the process of opening up a paypal account similar to the one Tommy Baldwin is using for the Steve Park ride.

I have no idea if this idea will be a bust or gold mine. But if it's a hit, the fans will help make this tour race the best thing ever. As I've said before, we might even be able to do tow money for drivers who don't qualify.

Also, we have a new goal. To once again put up some extra money for the 77 lap Evans/Jarzombek/Baldwin memorial race. No promises yet, but hopefully can do another 1000 to the winner/ 500 to the top tour driver like last time.

Once the paypal account is set up we will let you know. Thanks to Jaws for helping set up the account.
