Tim Bennett from Holland NASCAR Motorsports Complex recently announced the formation of a new NASCAR based modified series between his track and Spencer Speedway.

This new series is to be known as the “NASCAR Upstate New York Pro-Modified Series presented by Hoosier Tires of WNY and Sunoco Race Fuels”. Each track will host five races, with points being maintained to determine a points champion. Currently, based on a ten race series, a $3,000 point fund, over and above what is awarded by NASCAR regionally, is being posted to the modified drivers earning enough points to qualify for the inaugural title. To be eligible for the point fund, a driver must compete in three races at each track.

“We want to open our 2010 schedule with a 100-lapper in style,” stated Spencer promoter John White. That means the new NASCAR series will start on May 21 with a 100-lap race. It also means the August 6th race at Spencer, a 100-lapper, will also be part of the five races hosted by Spencer in this new series.

Add to this the George Decker Memorial 100, paying a total purse of nearly $13,000, at Holland on July 24 and three 100 lap extra distance events, paying higher purses, will be part of this new series.

On each series race night, two Hoosier tires will be given away to two randomly selected competitors from the visiting track. How these tires will be awarded has yet to be determined.

Each race is sanctioned by NASCAR and a NASCAR license is required to compete. In addition a 604 crate engine is an option for the Pro Modified Series. Tim Bennett added, “A 100 lb weight break will be given to any competitor using this motor. For additional information, call our office or review the Pro Modified Rule Book. This engine will be eligible to use at Spencer Speedway as well.”

This will be the first time, in many years, that two New York based NASCAR sanctioned speedway have worked together and created a series. It is the perfect opportunity for NASCAR modified teams to accumulate points towards the NASCAR New York State Championship.
