(LEHIGHTON, PA 2-28-10) After a five year hiatus the American Three Quarter Midget Racing Association is returning to the paved ¼-mile Mahoning Valley Speedway in Lehighton.
The amazingly fast TQ’s will run two events this year, May 22, which is five years and a day since the popular touring group last competed at Mahoning and again on August 7.

They will join the track’s regular divisions of Modifieds, Late Models, Street Stocks, Dirt Modifieds and Pro4 Late Models. The August 7 meet will also include the 4c Super Mods.
The 50 year old organization has had a strong presence at Mahoning Valley. Between 1987 and 2005 the TQ’s were a yearly addition on the Mahoning schedule and during that span an impressive list of names graced Victory Lane.

10-time champion Donnie Adams leads the way with 20 wins that he achieved in a five year span from 1999-2005. Other top open wheel stars who have chalked up Mahoning wins include Nick Fornoro, Jr., Mike Tidaback, Ryan Tidman, 2009 ARDC Midget champ Frank Polimeda and 2010 Gambler's Classic winner at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. Lou Cicconi, Jr., to name but a few.

Cicconi was a key figure in helping bring the TQ’s back to Mahoning.

Tidman, the 2008 TQ driver’s champion, holds the all-time track record at Mahoning with a blistering 9.131-second lap he set on September 11, 2004.

Alison Cumens is the 2009 TQ champion and the first female champion of the storied club.

In order to get reacquainted with the speedway the TQ’s are invited to partake in three pre-season paid practice sessions on Saturday and Sunday, March 27-28 and Saturday April 10 from noon to 4:00 p.m.

Mahoning Valley begins racing on Sunday, April 11 at 3:30 p.m. with the $1200 to win Dirt Cars on Asphalt 50 and the Street Stocks.

All regular tracks classes will be in action one week later on Saturday evening April 17 with the highlight being Hand Five of the 2009 Modified 100 Poker Series, a 100-lap $3000 to win main for the Modifieds which is a holdover race from last year and will determine the overall Poker Series champ.

The 2010 edition of the Poker Series, 7 Card Stud 100, has the first hand being dealt on Saturday night June 12.

Mahoning Valley Speedway is conveniently located just west of Lehighton on PA Route 443. For additional updates and information log onto www.mahoningspeedway.com or call the track office at 570-386-4900. You can also follow the track on Facebook and Rainout.com.
