(LEHIGHTON, PA 3-11-10) Mahoning Valley Speedway’s start to the 2010 season is less than a month away and when the action does take place there will be not one but two big weekends to kickoff the racing at the Lehighton paved ¼-mile oval which is run under the direction of Doug and Gena Hoffman.

First up will be Sunday, April 11 featuring the Dirt Modifieds and Street Stocks. The Dirt Cars on Asphalt Spring 50 will be a 50 lap, $1200 to win main. The Street Stocks will contest in a regular 25 lap main. For both classes this will be the first point races of the season.
2010 marks the second season as a regular track class for the Dirt Mods and although car counts weren’t the greatest last year, the competition amongst the core of drivers who did race was very fierce. Randy Thomas edged Steve Folk in what was a terrific season long battle for the track title.

Near the close of 2009 the fields began growing and so did the enthusiasm for this year. Thus the speedway is showing its continued commitment to the class with this special extra distance, extra payoff show.

Pit gates will open at 11:00 with open practice for all classes from noon to 3:00. Qualifying for the twin features starts at 3:30.

All regular tracks classes, Modifieds, Late Models, Dirt Modifieds, Street Stocks and Pro4 Late Models, will be in action one week later on Saturday evening April 17 at 6:00 p.m. with the highlight being Hand Five of the 2009 Modified 100 Poker Series, a 100-lap $3000 to win main for the Modifieds which is a holdover race from last year and will also determine the overall Poker Series champ.

Last year five 100-lap $3000 to win shows were scheduled but after several tries due to inclement weather the finale was put on hold until now.

A $5000 jackpot will be divvied between the top three drivers who are able to put together the best poker hand from the five races. That lucky trio will get $2500, $1500 and $1000 respectively.

Currently there are ten drivers who have a shot at sharing the payoff led by Eric Beers with a pair of Aces.

As usual a stellar field is expected to be on hand for this event.

Pre-season Test and Tune days will take place on March 27-28 and April 10 from noon to 4:00. Grandstand admission is free for all test sessions.

Mahoning Valley Speedway is conveniently located just west of Lehighton on PA Route 443. For additional updates and information log onto www.mahoningspeedway.com or call the track office at 570-386-4900. You can also follow the track on Facebook and Rainout.com.
