Happy Spring!
Welcome back to another year of racing!
The Modified Racing Series (MRS) have completed their last practice session and they are in their pits preparing for their qualifying session.

There were 35 cars originally registered for racing today.
A few cars had engine problems and will not race. Rob Goodenough starts the year off with a heartbreaking damage to the #1nh. The car had loose lug nut on the front left tire during practice. The tire came off and Goodenough hit the wall. The Goodenough team left the track earlier this afternoon making the long ride back home .

Two of the cars that had motor problems and will not be qualifying today are:
Chris Jensen in Bear's #14 car
Ed Dachenhausen #10 car

Two of the MRS team's did not show because they are waiting for engine parts -
Kevin Iannarelli #27
Rob Summers #1

Mike Douglas. Jr. #23 will be running a limited schedule this year which did not include this Waterford show.

Russ Stoehr jumped to the lead of the first heat race for the NEMA midgets on lap 1.

The MRS cars are currently staged on the back of the track ready for their qualifying session.

Lap 1 Caution
Car #79 of Max Zachem gets a flag as cars tangle on the front stretch. Lou Mechalides went through the infield to avoid contact and there is water that sprayed onto the track. We are under caution as the track crew cleans the track. Zachem has pitted

It looks like Max Zachem is out of the heat race. He will have to get into the race through the consi race.

The second heat race when from start to finish without a caution. At the end of the race three cars tangled just after turn three and came to rest against the ARCO barrier as the checkered flags flew - Cars involved were Jack Bateman, Eddy Spiers and Bobby Drown

On the start of the third heat race Todd Padnode and Jimmy Dolan were side by side until lap #3
Jimmy Dolan went back several spots, cars started to tangle and Doug Coby tapped Shelly Perry's car.
Perry took the #76 car into the infield in turn four and water once again sprayed on the track.

Caution lap 3 as the track crew cleans water off the track

Lap 4 Caution as Steve Masse (13) is the victim this time as his car came to rest in the ARCO bariier just after turn three. Jimmy Dolan (69) backed up again on the restart and cars backed up. Masse who was charging to the front hit the back of Dolan's car bouncing off and hitting the outside barrier.

The SK mods are currently on the track for heat races. During the second heat race Jeff Pearl (91) anfd Frank Ruocco (97) touched tires. Ruocco suffered bad front right damage and was towed off the track.

Track crew just completed track clean up and the heat race has just continued.

There are two more divisions to qualify - mini stock and Street Stock and then the MRS consi race

I checked in the pits when I ran back down again to the pits. Car #13 for Steve Masse's team is working hard to fix right front damage. Car #79 for Max Zachem was ready to come out for the consi race. I did not see the #69 of Jimmy Dolan.

During the Heat races Rowan Pennink clocked the fastest time for all the heats with a speed of 13.925

The MRS spotters have just made their way up in the grandstand.
The last Street Stock heat is lining up just outside turn four in the pits.
Their heat race will be 8 laps.

After the street stock the MRS will be out for their consi race.
