(LEHIGHTON, PA 4-3-10) The 2010 racing season at Mahoning Valley Speedway is set to begin with a doubleheader program on Sunday, April 11 beginning at 3:30 p.m.

The Dirt Cars on Asphalt Spring 50 will the main feature as the second year class will contest in a 50 lap, $1200 to win show. The Street Stocks will run in a regular 25 lap race.

With no other area tracks running that day the field for both divisions should fare well especially for the Dirt Modifieds. Along with the track regulars led by defending champion Randy Thomas, the Dirt Cars on Asphalt Spring 50 will be a great opportunity for all dirt modified teams who will be racing later this year at New Jersey Motorsports Park in the inaugural Dirt Modified Fast 50 on June 20 to get a feel for racing on blacktop.

This year’s Mahoning Street Stock class is shaping up to be a very healthy one. Led by reigning title holder Randy Ahner, Jr., pre-season indications show that this will be another highly competitive class with top runners going deep into the weekly field.

Prior to the feature there will be open practice for all track classes beginning at noon and running until 3:00.

Grandstand admission is $10.00. Children 10-years old and under are free. There is a $2.00 off admission for students, seniors over 65 and active military persons.

There is also an open practice session slated for this coming Saturday, April 10 from noon to 4:00 p.m.

All regular tracks classes, Modifieds, Late Models, Dirt Modifieds, Street Stocks and Pro4 Late Models, will be in action one week later on Saturday evening April 17 at 6:00 p.m. with the highlight being Hand Five of the 2009 Modified 100 Poker Series, a 100-lap $3000 to win main for the Modifieds which is a holdover race from last year and will also determine the overall Poker Series champ.

Last year five 100-lap $3000 to win shows were scheduled but after several tries due to inclement weather the finale was put on hold until now.

A $5000 jackpot will be divvied between the top three drivers who are able to put together the best poker hand from the five races. That lucky trio will get $2500, $1500 and $1000 respectively.

Currently there are ten drivers who have a shot at sharing the payoff led by Eric Beers with a pair of Aces. As usual a stellar field is expected to be on hand for this event.

Mahoning Valley Speedway is conveniently located just west of Lehighton on PA Route 443.
