NASCAR WHELEN SOUTHERN MODIFIED TOUR OWNER PENALIZED FOR RULES VIOLATIONS AT SOUTH BOSTON SPEEDWAY

NASCAR announced today the car No. 44 team that competes in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour has been penalized as a result of rules violations committed Saturday, April 3 at South Boston (Va.) Speedway.

The No. 44 team was found to be in violation of Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); and 9-15(V) (crew members must not go on the race track for any reason while the cars are racing or while the cars are running under the yellow flag) of the 2010 NASCAR rule book. The violations were during the race on April 3.

Bryan Fishel, car owner of car No. 44, has been placed on NASCAR probation for the next three NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour events, and placed on NASCAR probation until Aug. 25, 2010.

it never ceases to amaze me how many tracks still have spots like this that can cause major injuries.

IIRC, there was a similar crash 2 years ago at the Shootout in the SK race.
Two cars got together on the frontstraight then hit the wall where the entrance from the outer pits is (entering T1).
A scary wreck, the only good thing (other than no serious injuries) is that it didn't happen in the SuperMod race, that would have been ugly.
