Chas Okerson of Freehold, the defending Supreme Manufacturing Modified stock car driving champion, out-wrestled his brother-in-law Steven Reed, also of Freehold, for 40-laps Saturday night to win the headline main event at Wall Stadium. It was Okerson’s first win of the year and the second straight runner-up finish for Reed.

It took just a matter of moments for Okerson and Reed to rise to the top and then the battle for the win was on! Reed took repeated stabs at Okerson in an effort to steal away the lead, but fell short by just inches on several occasions. Tommy Farrell of Neptune won the other battle on the track, this one for the third position, while Dave Cranmer of Shrewsbury and Roger Coss of Lafayette wrapped up the top five.

“I have to thank Steven for running me clean,” Okerson, who is married to Reed’s sister Jennifer, said. “He had several chances to spin me out if he wanted to. I guess sometimes it’s good to be racing out here with family.”

Kevin Davison of Freehold, who started his racing involvement working on Okerson’s race team, also celebrated at the end of the evening by winning the companion 25-lapper for the Sportsman cars. Davison jumped to the lead early and then was forced to hold off the constant attacks of defending champion Kevin Eyres of Colts Neck. Andrew Krause of East Brunswick, Toms River’s Charlie Kremer III and Brick’s Robert Sutphin were third through fifth.

After Ron Poley of Egg Harbor Township and Kevin Nowak of Medford took turns leading the INEX Legend Cars 25-lapper, Trevor Alspach of Willingboro raced into the lead on lap 13 and then motored on to his first win of the year. Nowak was second, while Mike Alcaro of Newton was third. Wall’s Robert French and Poley wrapped up the top five.

After two tough outings where his car suffered damage, defending Street Stock driving champion Carl Thomas of Tinton Falls turned his early season around by winning the 25-lap main event. Ray Minieri of Bay Shore, N.Y., Hazlet’s Gregg Miranda, Bill Vanderveen of Beachwood and Jackson’s Howie Conk were second through fifth.

Paul Hartwig of Brick grabbed the lead at the half way mark and then cruised to his first win of the year in the Flanagan Retail Development Factory Stock 20-lap nightcap. Union’s Joe Helberg, Wall’s Rob Longo, early leader Chris Felber of Brick and Bill Connelly completed the top five.

Wall Stadium roars back into action this Saturday night (April 24) with the first of its “Family Fun Nights.” On the agenda will be the Factory Stocks in a double-point, all green flag 75-lapper, while the Legend Cars will see action in a 30-lap main event. Both the spectator gates and the pit area gates will open at 4:00 p.m., while qualifying will start at 6:15 p.m. and main events will start at 6:45 p.m. There will be no paid practice Saturday.
