How come the FD doesn't have a problem asking the motorsports community for some help (pay to donate)....

When the motorsports community is willing to PAY for the use of the track in ridge....to KEEP kids from being killed on the street....AT OUR EXPENSE ! !

Not one, not anyone from ANY of the FD chiefs can return calls....

After BHT said it's up to the parks commissioner, the parks commissioner said it's up to the FD chiefs, ask the FD's.... The FD's , hows that song go......

Got No reply at all........ No reply at all.....

Everyone knows where to come and get help though..............

For those who don't know.....
There is a beautiful facility in Ridge, built by the Town of Brookhaven on Town land. The various Fire Departments get to use it for free for tournaments and what not. An inquiry was made as to use the facility for a fee. The runaround ensued. So since the Fire Departments are already funded by your (and my) tax dollars, think about where the "donation" for "admission" goes when you go to Bald Hill or other events. Please know I have nothing against Firemen. They provide an important service for which I am thankful. I'm irked by those who have privilege and through what I perceive to be a bit of bias, choose to protect said privilege.

DO ME A favor.... Before you go spouting untrue made up off the top of your head stories and excuses for them.....that YOU believe to be the REASON

ASK...the source...... WE have the insurance, professional competition insurance..... We could run a event there tomorrow, or on the runways at epcal this weekend...or any other spot that has the room for us to set up...

They won't return my calls because we have insurance, in fact that is better then theirs.... in fact we have a triple A rating...

We went to the town, the town put us to the parks commis... he said it's for the FD's, it's theirs ask them, he would be out of place to give us the OK and not consult them..... on their facility... (built and paid for and maintained by TAX payer dollars)

Their facility....no the tax payers facility... We asked for use, with any date they needed we would vacate those days.... Again as said earlier... no reply at all.... because they do not want to say no.... and start a problem... because they shouldn't have a problem sharing the facility, were the money made could HELP there FD district..... Nope there selfish and apparently the lives that could be saved using the facility is JUST NOT important....as it is with every elected politician on this island..

I hate when people open there mouth about things they have no clue about...

You support them, and they do not support you.... I love the motorsports community .... they just screw themselves at every possible chance they can.... Send a message, don't go to bald hill traitors...

Come on SuperShafts, you know as well if not better than most that all and the best insurance in the world is only good until someone gets hurt. Then it all flows downhill in lawsuits until you get to the bottom which is the property owner. And that being what it is I highly doubt any municipality will allow town owned property to be used for a Drag Race type of event.

I can't not respond... I don't know all the facts either and don't claim to... but I DO KNOW...
There is a difference between Fire District and Fire Department.... You pay taxes to the fire District for offering to protect your house and family from fire emergencies. Your tax dollars are used to supply the needed equipment, fire houses, fire trucks, training and OSHA approved whatever that needs replacing often in this type of work.
Your "donations" that all fire Departments solicit for are for things district monies are not allowed to cover.. such as picnics, trips, athletic games, fire department drill teams... entertainment(lets not go there) so forth and so on.
I am not sure how this figures in your "want to rent the property"... but you are legally dealing with TWO different entities... I am sure you know that Super Shafts, but most people have no idea there is a difference between a fire "district" and a fire "department"..

Now... figure this one out in a legal manner... the equipment for a drill team used to be technically owned and insured by the fire district, but the fire department had to maintain it... controversy with NYS came up when they said... show us the records for how many emergency reponses it was used for and at... that went across the board for both motorized and hand drawn ladder relay teams. NO idea if, how or when that was ratified but know it was a serious issue for and in many fire departments and their members.

As for Cruise Night... a nice thing to get together and show your car, bike or whatever... HOWEVER... It needs to be policed better after hours. The DRAG racing down the LIE service road goes on every Tuesday night from about 10:00pm till??? I am positive it happens on a weekly basis... this past Tuesday there was almost a horrible accident as a innocent local homeowner got run off the road by the racers. SO, when is the fire department going to fix and be held responsible for that one when it occurs... yes it will happen, its just going to be when? And since this is a department function and fundraiser... it is the department who will be liable.

Ok, so I'm done. No answers, no suggestions. But do know the differnece between fire District and Departments is true. I was one of the first volunteer female firefighters ever in NYS, an EMT for years. I had the exact same responsibilities and capabilities as any male in the department. I asked for nor got any special treatment, except a ladies bathroom(no shower, just a tiolet and sink). Standard in any firehouse which is technically a public building, with limitations to access. I also grew up in a house where my dad was a fireman and a fire commissioner for the fire district. He was not well liked because he said no to many of the "we want___". My dad was responsible to the towns tax payers and how their money was spent. He took his "volunteer job" very seriously. He was in fact responsible for equipment purchasing, and things of tht nature. Many times he said no to the firemen because things weren't OSHA approved, trying to save them from possible injury and non-insurance coverage if there was no approval rating. His diligence saved many a $$ and I know some lives a few times from serious injuries cause he said no, we must wait for the OSHA seal...

Like I said, I don't know all the information... do know some of it. If people are really interested in finding out "details", start by going to your local fire district monthly meetings and asking questions. People get real antsy when put on the spot and fact and figures are required to be shown... enough of a ruckus and its called an audit!!

OK, done and off my soap box.

Hey SuperShafts... my husband just threw at me a thought...posting for him...
The Shinnecock Indian Nation is now being offered various land sites to build a casino. Why not approach them to see of they would be interested in also incorportaing a race track/drag strip in their plans? A money earning proposal, doesn't hurt to bring forth some serious information, facts and figures.
As the Indian Nation isn't governed by the same rules and regulations as everyone else is, they are being offered a airport location, or even their own land has different R&R to noise than anyplace else... it would certainly bring $$ and people into the area...
