The first of four open competition Tour-Type Modified Shoot Outs will be held this Thursday, June 3, 2010 at the Thompson International Speedway. The much heralded event is expected to attract many of the top Modified race teams from the northeast in what is bound to be an exciting, go for the gusto type of racing spectacular.

Drivers from every major touring division have expressed interest in this unique racing program and are expected to be on hand to compete in qualifying races, a consolation race if necessary, and an all out charge for the 40-lap feature event.

Joining the Tour-Type Modifieds at Thompson this Thursday will be the track’s very own Sunoco Modifieds, Late Models, Limited Sportsman, Thompson Modifieds and Mini Stocks. Qualifying races will be held for all divisions beginning at 6 PM.

Heading the list in the Tour-Type race cars is seven-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion, Mike Stefanik. Ted Christopher, Keith Rocco, Ronnie Silk, Richard Savary and many, many more.

The pot in the Tour-Type race has been sweetened by an additional $2,000.00+ due to the efforts of Brad Lafontaine and his staff at Northeast Race Cars and Parts. This bonus money will be distributed through random drawings. This will make every competitor eligible for some of that additional money.

The open competition Tour-Type Modified race format is designed to reflect the way these cars raced in the golden era of Modified racing. Time trials will not be used to determine the starting field. Racers will have to compete in qualifying races in order to make the starting grid. The 40-lap distance is designed to make the race a hard charging event right from the drop of the green flag.

The Thompson Speedway grandstands will open at 4 P M and qualifying will get underway at 6. Full details on this very special event may be found on the Thompson web site. www.thompsonspeedway.com (http://www.thompsonspeedway.com)

Any word on which drivers will be going to Thompson? Most of the drivers listed in the press release already compete there on a weekly basis. Car counts have been way down at the Big T. this year. Only 17 Sk's the other night and that was one of the larger starting fields. I like what they're doing here with the tour type race but I need to be convinced this is going to be worth the drive down on Thursday night.

Who in their right mind to going to go to Thompson and use up good equipment for $1,500 to win and has a tire rule. How's the tire rule working out in the MRS with 12 cautions a race and very few passes for the lead under the the green. Sundance Speedway had a $5,000 to win with no tire rule and it was the best race of the year. Can we say it's a T.C. Benefit race. They will be luckly to see 15 Modifieds and maybe 5 competitve cars. If Thompson wants this to work they should be paying $2,500 to win and $400 to start.

Not to mention the fact that the tour teams have to leave for Martinsville this weekend and the MRS guys are coming off a doubleheader weekend.

I for one am glad that Thompson is running these races. In my opionion, any Full Modified race is better than No Modified Race at all. I'd probably go thursday, but we're leaving early friday for PA/NC/VA and have more than enough driving for this weekend, but Hopefully, we'll be at the July 1st event.
